They absolutely annihilated Northern Illinois. They may be better than I thought. Even with that Iona needs to win this game for several reasons.

Don't know much about Northern Illinois, but from what I found, they sound pretty dreadful. Nevertheless, any win by a margin of 62 points over another D1 team is a real eye opener.
The MAAC opens 1-4 tonight. Rider getting bounced by Robert Morris was the biggest surprise IMO... should be interesting to see how Mike McFadden does when he becomes eligible in the next semester... McFadden had a big upside IMO, too bad we couldn't have held on to him.

We'll need our A game for Purdue, but I like our chances. I really think this team wants to prove something.
I watched Belmont give Duke all it wanted, losing 77-76.
I can't wait for the 17th.
Go Gaels!!!

Pomeroy has Northern Ill ranked 332. Syracuse had a win like this right before our game last year. As did Richmond, I believe. The impressive thing is that Hummel had 21 points in 20 minutes. And shot 5-7 from 3.

5 days and I can't wait. Wish I could be there. This is Iona's biggest opener I can ever remember.

Do you think it was a strategic decision to not play a game before Puerto Rico?
I am thinking Cluess did this on purpose. No chance to see tape on the Glover & the guards offense and defensive pressure could be tough for Purdue as well as Iona's second game opponent.

Matt painter is one hell of a coach. We are very familiar with him here in STL. Before he moved to Purdue, he was the Coach at Southern Illinois - the alma mater of Walt Frazier and, during the Weber/Painter time frame, a powerhouse in the Missouri Valley. He was Missouri's first choice to succeed Mike Anderson last March.
As a former mid-major coach with many "major" scalps on his belt, Matt knows how a mid can sneak up and mug a BCS team. He will have Purdue ready for us. I am not as confident in this victory as many are here. A "W" over Purdue will be a major statement by this team.

Purdue plays High Point tonight, a Pomeroy 282 ranked team. I'm hoping for an easy, impressive win for the Boilers and a sense of over-confident malaise when they head to Puerto Rico.

I agree - and i'll add that despite all the time he's missed, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Robbie Hummel. Having said that, I like our team and think we can be competitive with anybody. Yes, it would be a big win, but doable.

Purdue up 4, 29-25 at home v. High Point at the half. Wish they saved that stinker for us.

Whatever the outcome and when all is said and done, I just want Purdue to come away knowing that they weren't playing a typical MAAC team.
