Nice find Super, looks like a evenly matched game.

Pretty much I think it was the travel that came up about going to Iona that caught some off guard but like others said after VCU and Vermont had to make that cross country trip it was our time.
The main thing that a few posters were unhappy about was LBSU getting to go to Creighton. That is the main argument going on over there but up until yesterday most of the matchups at least I was hearing was Cleveland State or Ohio. So Iona came out of left field on that one.
My co-worker though is very happy with the matchup because he has won a lot of money on Iona in the sportsbooks here. So he is loooking forward to this game.
But at least you might get two west coast games out of it. Vegas is only an hour plane ride from Reno, or little more than an hour so that could be done. But if looking for a team that will do a return trip that could be harder.
But I am thinking it will be a good game against two pretty comparable teams. Good luck until BB time, then I hope we wipe the floor with you, then good luck until the end of the season.

I'd prefer you just blow the roof off the gym so we can get a new one.

Hope all is good with Iona fans! I had read through your bracketbuster thread and saw a few of you a some of the same concerns a few Nevada fans have. With the teams so close in rpi, I've read on both sides that a win doesn't help at large chances much, and a loss will really hurt. I don't share that view, and actually real happy with Nevada being paired with Iona. I don't really think it's a big deal that you play in a small arena. Saint Mary's is a private university as well, and theirs is real similar to Iona's. Anyway, thought you might be interested to see what our local paper in Reno wrote about the match up. www.rgj.com/article/20120131/SPORTS06/201310304/Nevada-basketball-5-things-know-about-BracketBuster-opponent-Iona?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|SportsI'm happy Nevada can get some East Coast exposure. A little trivia for Iona fans: This will only be the second time Nevada has played in New York in the 99 year history of our basketball program. Best of luck in your games leading up to the BracketBuster game! Should be a good one!

Thanks NV - I agree - should be a good matchup. And indeed, the Gael teams have remarkably similar arenas. Mckeon Pavillion being just slightly larger than Hynes. Odd coincidence. Attachments:

A homecoming of sorts for Nevada Coach, David Carter. Coach Carter starred for the Gaels in the 80's. He led his team to a 25 -5 record, and set the school record for assists in the process. You just knew they were going to find a way to match the Gaels.

This game reminds me of last year's CIT Championship at New Rochelle. As a Gaels fan, I hope it turns out better for us.

Santa Clara did a very smart thing last year as they traveled from their previous game right to New York and spent several days in the city getting ready for the game and having a good time in NY.
Nevada will not have the same luxury, they will be making a brief trip and that will be very tough on them. We definitely have an advantage due to the travel.

I don't think for a second that travel will affect Nevada's performance. I think they will be jacked up to have landed in NYC...some for the first time in their lives...and will bring it hard in New Rochelle. Let's not concentrate on reasons why Nevada might lose and instead focus on how Iona will win.

I was really just trying to point out what Santa Clara did last year that was very unique and I think it was part of the reason they played so well. If Iona is the better team they will win this game, we will see if they are the better team.

Wolf Pack fans are begging admin to get team to NY early. They play on 2/14 and not again until 2/25. They'll be ready to bring it.
