Naturally I want the Gaels at #1, but here's my wish for the next four spots, and if form holds, we'll play the winner of the #4-#5 in the semi's:
1. Iona 2. Loyola 3. Fairfield 4. Manhattan 5. Rider
I think that Loyola and FF are the two toughest foes, and I don't want to have to beat both of them. And yes I do remember St. Peter's, last year. But in my mind St. Peter's didn't win it, we lost it. What do you think?

Agree. From what I've seen Fairfield is still the most dangerous of that bunch. Having said that, it shouldn't matter who we play.

Back in the early 1980's, when Iona was in a fierce rivarly with National U, which was considered our toughest opponent in the MAAC, when preparing for the MAAC tournament, one Iona player (I think it was Gary Springer) was quoted as saying "If it's Fordham, it's Fordham. The next victim is the next victim."
I believe that quote ended up on T-shirts worn by the student section, and the Gaels went on to beat Fordham and win the MAAC tournament.
That is the attitude I'd like to see this team have. If we are worried about who we have to face, there is a good chance we will lose. It the Gaels focus on playing their best game, they should win.
Also, I don't think there is a whole lot of difference between, Loyola, Fairfield and Manhattan. All three are capable of beating Iona, if Iona doesn't bring its A game, but have little chance if Iona does bring its A game.

Too early to say. But based on last year, I'd rather avoid anyone we sweep. Of course if we go 16-2 that's hard to do!

We've proven we can beat anyone we'll face. Manhattan, FF, and Loyola each bring their own challenges. To me, Manhattan is built a lot like us and is well conditioned and athletic. They have a first year coach, but he's doing a very good job. They could beat us. Fairfield has a couple of stud players, who will be facing elimination as seniors, and a very good and seasoned coach. They also play a completely different style than we do. They are not panicking even though they are fourth currently. They could beat us. And Loyola has terrific length and athleticism in the front court and a very good three point threat. They could beat us also.
So on any given day you have to pick your poison. Let's just make sure we're not playing that 10pm game on Saturday night.

Iona just needs to play 3 good games, a stinker like last year and anyone in the league can beat us.
What I liked most about Saturday was for the first time all year it seemed there were defined roles. Iona did damage with their big 3 as well as a little from Armand and others. Manhattan couldn't focus on stopping anyone because everyone was a factor, and the defensive intensity in the second half was fantastic.

Also loved getting 14 points, 8 boards, 2 assists and only 2 turnovers in 37 minutes from Ridley/Randy spot.

Just so it was clear, my point re not wanting to face someone we swept is based on that oft-proven theory that it's hard to beat a team 3 times. Law of averages thing. Iona beat up SPC pretty good in both meetings in the regular season last year--it wasn't a shock that they were going to compete the third time around. It also affects the psyche of the team--"we beat them twice, so..."
This isn't to say that I want us to lose to capable teams Loyola and Fairfield. I'm just saying that that is a hazard of doing so. You still have to find ways to win games no matter who you're facing, but you get my point.

The actual quote was, "Our next victim is our next opponent" and it was printed on the back of one of the Bumpers Traveling Circus tee-shirts. I know, because I had one (Gregcrow probably did too).

Now that was sweet!!

This week will be huge in determining MAAC tourney seedings. We play Loyola, while Fairfield plays both Manhattan and Loyola.
