Our potential facilities upgrade is needed to basically keep pace in the MAAC, not for a step up in conference. We have a good coach and conference; we need better facilities or we will fade into Rider status, i.e. perennially mid-standings. Out of curiosity, how long do think it will be before the negative effect of Iona's facilities take hold?

Probably as long as it took St. Mary's to have a negative effect. To me, this is such a non-issue. Lack of facilities has really killed us these last five years. Listen, I want new facilities as much as anyone and I will contribute. I just don't think it's as critical as others do. We will be fine either way.

I tend to agree with you, I think it comes down to people and relationships, not that new facilities wouldn't be nice, but I don't think it's of overwhelming importance.

I think relationships and communication have been our strong suit in the Cluess-era. And, we've done an amazing job.
I think facilities attract freshman, higher level freshman. Kids are easily impressed with tons of seating, locker rooms, video rooms, etc.
Our relationship-building helps us with transfers and Jucos. They are a more mature and hungrier. And they know that facilities don't equal wins or NCAA appearances.
I'm happy with the kids we've been getting and the kids we are interested in. I think we will continue to recruit well with Cluess, Grasso, and Leichner. However, if we lose them - I'll panic.

Somehow, despite having poorer facilities than half our league at least, we brought in the league's best freshman, by a wide margin. The new facility will come, but it's not urgent.

Don't know exactly but I think its essential to our long term ability to remain at the top of the conference.

Guy, the new facility is not urgent? If you were my age, you would probably see things differently.:-)

See my post under "New Arena"-- take a tour and ask yourself if you'd come here or some other place. Our coaches do a remarkable job--given the circumstances. ASK THEM!

Very encouraged that we are still mentioned as a possible landing spot for Eli Cain and Rokas Ulvydas, as per different scouting services on Twitter.
But I would have to think that recent offers to Moneke and Kyle Meyer are ways of covering bases at those positions, even though we don't really recruit at position.

You would think guys would be savvy enough to know that great coaching will get them to the next level. Not fancy arenas or weight-lifting equipment. But how many 18 year olds are mature and savvy enough to realize that?

that why re do the behind the scenes stuff for the league games, try to play 2 home games a year in an arena, convince Manhattan to play both games each year in an arena, so both games are at neutral sites( helps rpi?)and no home court advantage as part of doubleheaders
