Bashir Ahmed is the real deal. This kid never takes a play off. He hustles 100% of the time and plays like every moment is his last. People talk about "leaving it all out on the court".... this kid does it every game. He wears out opposing players with his constant movement. Also, do not be put off by his being thin. This is a tough kid who plays through contact all the time and excels at it. He led the PSAL in scoring averaging 24 points and 12 rebounds a game. He had 36 points, 20 rebounds and 3 blocks in the city playoffs against Cardozo. Slam Magazines Eldon Khorshidi referred to Bashir as on of the most underrated high school players in the country. This kid did it all while being double teamed in many games.
Here is a NYC player ranking from the guys who actually watch these kids day in and day out.... not the usual crap where a kid is ranked high because of a reputation developed and marketed by their handlers.

There is a strong case to be made that IONA although a small college that plays in a 2,500 capacity gym has grown into a big time recruitment program whose potential has outgrown its facilities and growing fan base. How it is being done baffles this old time fan who remembers well the days that we were delighted with leftovers. It is my hope that the school powers realize this and do not miss the chance to become the Gonzaga of the east, and the metro area's No. 1 team....New York City has never been more ready for a new ''Basketball tree'' to cast its shadow.........''Empire City'' take notice....

LOL, Gonzaga of the east. We've become the Siena board. Congrats, everyone! Go Saints!

So everyone on the board, stop believing in Santa Cluess as well. The preseason period is like Christmas eve... people are excited and dreaming of that new bike or Red Ryder BB Gun. That is part of the fun. This is going to be a very talented team the next couple of seasons. Can we use this as a launching pad into bigger things...maybe. But enjoy what we have when we have it as history has shown us that the MAAC runs in cycles. With that said, if we land Tafari Whittingham all bets are off as I expect a run to the sweet 16 and then we are going big time!

hey we picked up a nice recruit--but slow down guys...he wasn't being offered by anyone that was any better of a program then Iona is (all mid-majors)
...maybe he "blows up" but at this point he is a solid mid -mnajor recruit----tafari , however is a different story....

Trust me... he is a high level recruit. If this kid played for St. Rays, Christ the King or Lincoln he would have been recruited at the highest levels. Not only is he the best scorer in NYC he is also the best overall player as his defense is as good as his offense. His brother is a damned good player as well. He still has to make it to campus but this is the kid I have said we needed all along. You guys knew how excited I was over Glover arriving and our signing of Williams.... I am more excited over landing this kid,

Go Saints![/quote]..............Guy has found another way to infer to us as Delusional...I stand by my post....Considering the last few years, the outlook for this year and what looks already like a real banner recruiting 2014, we will soon become (If not already) a eastern mid-major powerhouse. Even Siena fans will find that assumption reasonable.

Impossible task, but worth the effort.

The best part of this is Bashir is a big MAAC fan from what I understand and he always wanted to stay home. His stated that his two favorite schools were Iona and Manhattan.... so we wrenched him away from Masiello... that makes me even happier.
