I had to leave MTG early in the second half and the guys I was sitting with had Amayo as the first half POG. And I see him as a starter or at least a guy who will first off the bench. I think that as the PS goes on his condition will improve, and his game reminds me Adrian Dantley, just not as good. But good nevertheless. Other thoughts, based on the half I saw:
*Bessick is an athletic big who can play inside or out. I know some disagree but I was impressed. At this point he's a better all around big than either Hines or Robinson. Not as big as Dan nor can he shoot like Rydien, but he's a better rebounder than either and is more athletic.
*Like EP, I was impressed with Dublin. He's our second best rebounder and his experience shows. The comparison to Steve Smith is a good one. I see him as a glue guy, who is unselfish and smart. I expect him to start.
*Cedric is FUN to watch, but can't see him approaching 2000 points. In the next two years there are just too many guys who can score, and, by rule, we have to play with one basketball. Again, I agree with the Kiki Clarke comparison.
*IW was the best front court player, not named David Laurey. The only thing that will keep him from being a first team MAAC player, is because the League has to spread the wealth. He definitely looks better than last year, and he looked good then.
*I saw DL shooting a lot of threes in warmups and at Monday's practice, and I do expect him to take the perimeter shot if the defenders play off him. If they play him tight, he has a very quick spin move. The only problem with the spin is that it often leads to a charging foul. And as our best rebounder TC probably wants him near the basket. But like last year he triggered our offense from top of the key. At least that is how I saw it. He's trimmed down some and seems quicker.
*Robinson moved much better than I expected, considering he just started practicing, and gets off the floor fairly well.
*Bebis might be a year away, but if/when he gets stronger he should contribute, as does a lot of things well. Needs to learn the Cluess system and he seems eager to learn.
*Muhammed better than what I expected, but feel that it will be prudent to wait, before reaching a conclusion. But like they say, "You only get one chance to make a first impression". And his was pretty good.
*Last year (at MTG) Grant Ellis couldn't miss from deep and this year he couldn't make one. But his game has improved and he looked a lot more comfortable. But in order to stay on the court he'll have to dial long distance, and do so with very few wrong numbers.
I'm sure all the other MAAC teams have scrimmaged this weekend and excited their fans as well. Put me down as excited.
