Guys, IMHO, Cluess will only go to Seton Hall or SJU. Willard bought himself at least another year with his recruiting class and I do not see Lavin leaving SJU anytime soon. With that said if Cluess leaves we have Grasso waiting in the wings.

I hope Grasso would stay for stability

I know many SH fans were not that happy about it, relating it to a cozy relationship with Pat Lyons.

If Willard does not win with his stud recruiting class he will be in trouble. He has two years to turn it around. Pat will not be looking too good if Willard does not pull it off. That is why they have no problem with hiring the recruits coaches. they have to win now.

Willard has to win soon. He's out of assistant coach jobs to use as recruiting bribes.

If I am a high mid-major recruit maybe even a BCS level (Ahmed) and I am in love with, in this example, the Iona coaching staff; I am not signing until the Spring. "Coach, I am coming on Board; but I am not signing until Spring." Why? "I want to be where you are." If I was advising the young man, I give the same advice. I do not want the turmoil of a coaching change. I do not agree with the conclusion that with some success our coach will leave. I think we under-estimate the character of our coach with such a conclusion. He may leave, but it will take a lot more than a barrell of cash. I think it starts with the value he places on the development of his players. For example, I see the "one and done" syndrome as a non starter for him.

Would you agree that after 3 years of solid results most mid major coaches would consider leaving for a big pay day for their families? It wouldn't be a one and done situation.

All I am saying here is that I see this as a more complex decision for this Coach than for most. I don't have any information other than my surmise from the man's history, the character of his players to date, and my belief that he values the institution's commitment to his values. If I did not know better, I would say he is from the SHOW ME State.

Just how good is he? Seems he is a Juco from the press release. Will he have only 2 years eligibility?

I have to go back and check but I think I remember Brad Winton from Juco recruiting say he would have 3 years left because he was not playing this year

I believe that he has 3 years left. He was qualified out of high school, played JUCO his first year and is sitting out this year. I would project him as a more aggressive, athletic and maybe tougher version of Randy Dezouvre with better range offensively. A good pickup that does all the little things you need to win. In high school he went by the name Najeal McMillan.
Najeal McMillan, 6-5, SF, Wisconsin Playground Warriors Though he doesn’t have the ideal height for a power forward or the skill set you envision in a small forward, Najeal McMillan is the type of guy who every coach dreams of. At TOC, the athletic combo forward was all over the place playing whatever role Wisconsin Playground Warriors head man Ritchie Davis needed of him. The lefty defended a number of positions, was a monster on the glass, and scored from either forward position all weekend long. You aren’t going to catch him going to UNC or Duke, but Najeal is exactly the type of player who every mid-major coach needs on their roster if they hope to win games.
Here is a tweet from Kline about his performance a year ago at Scoutsfocus, a national elite showcase. He is in some great company.
Alex Kline @therecruitscoop Najeal McMillan, Isaiah Briscoe, RJ Curington, Shanquel Watson, Mark Vital & Nic Wells also performing well at Scoutsfocus. Recap on Monday. 13 months ago
Another review of his abilities at that showcase said:
Najeal McMillian 6'5" WI 215lbs 2012: Complete game. Creative body control. Rebounds. Unstoppable offense. Defensive instincts. Finishes around basket.
