Kid was highly recruited by a lot of majors out of HS, he was adamant about staying close to home and getting playing time so he took a chance on Fordham. Not sure what our involvement was, but agreed that he is a star player and would be a great fit in our system. Believe he has a reputation for being a bit of a loose cannon, though. Frankly, from watching a few Fordham games so far this season I get the sense that Severe is calling the shots over there and doing what he pleases, and I'm sure that had something to do with his decision to go to Fordham. Don't think that would be the case if he came to Iona.

Each game that passes it becomes more and more puzzling why this kid chose to go to Fordham over other metro area teams that are actually competitive, like Iona and Manhattan. Yesterday he scored 32 in a loss to Monmouth. The kid's got a ton of talent. Too bad he will quickly fade into obscurity playing at Fordham where he'll probably average 25+ points on a single digit win A10 team for the next 4 years of his career, if he decides to stick around that long.

Or maybe he'll help lift that dreadful program from the abyss its been in for over two decades. If the lambs can get their act together, I think it could be helpful to all the NYC metro programs - helping to make college hoops in this area a little more relevant (JMO).

Next year they lose Frazier, who I think is their second leading scorer, but gain Eric Paschal, who we were after. They also have Ryan Rhomes, who we were also after, and he's coming on, and should be good by his junior (next) year. A soph, Meyers, is also a pretty good guard. They have next to no bench, but have a few guys that are either hurt or waiting on the NCAA to clear them. And remember their fans are really delusional, but all that losing will do that to you. An example is a FU fan asking why are we playing Monmouth on the road? B/t/w, Monmouth was picked LAST IN THE MAAC. Tom Pecora must be the highest paid coach in all the NCAA, so the school is making the effort to improve. JMO.

Thing about Severe, I don't know what his team was like in H.S., but I'm guessing his role wasn't much different than it is at Fordham, which is basically just shoot a lot. He stepped into a situation at Fordham where he didn't have to sit to get playing time right away and has free rein to do whatever he wants, which is shoot a lot. I think this has eased the transition for him to college ball. He's a good fit for Pecora's offense. He appears so far to be a VG outside shooter, but at 6'1" he's going to be challenged by guys on the perimeter who have real length. I think for him it was down to Fordham and Rutgers, and the situation at Rutgers gave him pause understandably.
BTW as good a scorer as he is, he wasn't coming in here and starting over Sean or AJ as a freshman. At Fordham, he starts from day one.

You get the sense that Severe has the green light to do whatever he wants to offensively for Fordham. That wouldn't happen here or at at any good program. Severe will hoist up whatever he wants, but Pecora is a lousy coach (great BS artist though) and Fordham being Fordham, Severe is looking at 4 years of being the best player on a bad team, ala Chris Gaston.
Bad decision for him to go to Fordham.

No doubt Pecora used Speedy Claxton as his example during recruitment. Threw him the keys to the team bus

If I remember correctly his Grandmother had a big influence in his decision to go to Fordham. she was in the education field and wanted him to go to Fordham because of their academics. Next year Paschall comes in plus they have a highly touted big, Suarez, who is a partial qualifier this year. Will be interesting to see what happens next year. Even with another poor season next year I do not see him transferring out because of the academics. As a side note Paschall's situation is similar as far as wanting to stay local and Fordham's academics. He could have gone much higher than Fordham

BB players who wish to become theologians should definitely go to Fordham.

Severe was recruited heavily in HS. Many A10 schools, including Fordham (obviously), St. Bona, Rhode Island, George Washington, Duquesne, and Dayton pursued him. Pittsburgh got in late and offered and a number of other BCS schools were on him. I've heard Pecora basically gave him the keys to the car for four years. Shoot as much as you want, Jon. My guess is he'll put up big numbers for himself, but the W's won't follow.

I thought about a month ago that Lavin should have brought in Severe, instead of Jordan, because of SJU's shooting deficiencies. But now that it looks like Jordan is transferring to Temple he must really be kicking himself.

Severe played 40 minutes and shot just 5-16 from the field, but 11-11 from the charity stripe, ending up with 23 points as Fordham scored 54 in the second half in a come from behind victory over Loyola (IL) 83-69.
