Not really sure what the point about Mike Poole is. One player who didn't play much in Buffalo making a mistake doesn't have any bearing on whether AJ, Laury, or Sean were gassed causing them to make mistakes. Of course fresh players make mistakes too. And gassed players sometimes drain threes at the end of a game. Poole was the only guy able to sky for an offensive rebound in the last few minutes too.
Nobody here appreciates coach Cluess more than I do. Love the guy. If he's infallible, though, then he's the first infallible coach ever on the hardwood.
And I'm not questioning his general decision to use a short rotation; just last night.

I'm sorry, I just will never buy the excuse that a 20 year old in the prime of life, doing something they love can get tired playing 30-35 minutes twice a week, and I see no reason using that as an excuse for every tight game or loss...One would be amazed at what the human body can endure, but I fear that threshold is being lowered with each passing generation...They play 30-35 games a year...The pros. playing 70-75 games a year seldom find being tired used as en excuse...Of course the ''Big BUCKS'' help. I believe that we were simply lulled into poor play by St.Pete's type of play...This is not new with them, as it has happened for many years...They try to keep the game close and get you playing cautiously and away from what you do best...As the game proceeds the apprehension increases.... St.Petes has been a long time metro area fixture and a Iona rivalry...But its facilities, locality and general program has become antique with no hope in sight, they are a drawback and with remorse I no longer view them as an asset for the MAAC.....

short rotation has been working, so no problem with that. gomez and sledge both have a roll, sledge when we need to speed the tempo, gomez at the end of games to settle us down and make good decisions. gomez had played the last few minuted the last few games before last night, not sure why that changed. short rotation is fine hopefully in the MAAC tourn we get a blowout so they don't play 35min 3 days in a row though

Cluess said in a recent pre game interview that basically these are 20 year old kids and they don't get tired. He said this was something fans worry about, and is not a big deal.

So much parity in the MAAC.On any given night Iona & Manhattan are being taken to the wire. Just looking how Niagara played these two teams last wked. A win is a win. A good team wins the ugly games. Go Iona!!

Dunne is a very good coach, but many programs and fans would not enjoy that style of play. Very boring, makes it very hard to get top talent to play in that kind of a system. St Peters only draws about 350 per game as a result of this, and of course other factors like location and arena. I would have a hard time watching Iona basketball if this was our system. Works for Bo at Whisky

Saying 20 year olds don't get tired simply doesn't reflect reality. Everybody gets tired. Everybody gets mentally fatigued from time to time.
Got to find something to whine about; we've won seven in a row.

I have been sitting on this one for some time now. I've been wondering about a trend in our guard play for several weeks. Frankly, I wondered if it was me reading in soemthing that was not there, as I have been known to do. After the St. Peter's game, I am going to put it out there. All of us think of AJ as the PG on this team, right?? And doing a hell of a job at it, right?? Well, I am not so sure. It seems to me that in our last several games (8 to 10) AJ and Sean morph into switched roles during the game - in the second half. AJ is in the PG role for the first half, and then Sean takes over the playmaking and AJ moves off the ball. Take a look at the stats for these two over the past weveral weeks. Last night's final play did it for me. Watch the video from last night, and lo and behold who is bring the ball up in our final possession? www.icgaels.com/mediaPortal/player.dbml?&db_oem_id=14900&id=3194828 Sean makes a move on the basket, and the D collapses on him. Then the dish off to AJ. Has Professor Cluess pulled another one along with the bench role for DL to confuse the oposition? He sure has SLG confused. To paraphrase the commercial tag line for my favorite beverage - Brilliant!!

I still believe we will need Sledge and/or Gomez at pg to win.

(Would liked to have seen him with the ball more in his hands against Manhattan in tourney.)I think he is the most NBA ready IOna player in years - size, quickness, handle, smart, can shoot, can take it inside. I'm not saying he is there, but if he continues to add to his game as he has in the last couple of seasons; we may see him there.
