Scored 48 in 1st half and 27 in 2nd. Give the Griffs credit. Gritty bunch and they had the refs in their pocket too. But our guys were grittier! We also hit wide open 3's in the first half and missed most in the second.

How sweet was Bowman's putback dunk?

I was impressed with DL. Funky game in that he got called for the early fouls, and never really got into a rhythm offensively, but what I love about him is that when one part of his game is off, he keeps competing and doing other things. Huge offensive rebound and put back at 70-70. Just huge and very clutch. So right. Laury has only 1 field goal but still has a huge positive impact on the game for Iona. Amazing passer and very cool under defensive pressure. Also kept his cool when a few horrible calls went against him for fouls ( like when he was elbowed in the throat and was called for a foul). Laury is some talent. Great all around game by Sean also. I hope Manhattan and Quinny pound the crap out if each other.

Such a paper thin margin between winning and losing.
Value every possession and defend 40 minutes like your life depended upon it.
Survive and advance.

Gaels open a 4.5 point favorite Prediction: Iona 77 Canisius 74 This could be the nut cutter! Baron can have his 20pts, 5 rbs, 5 assists. Have to avoid a "monster" game from him. Need DL to out rebound Manhertz. Perez is an excellent shooter and we need to have a hand in his face. Should be close throughout but I truly feel Iona wins based on our team having a few more offensive weapons. Go Gaels! BTW Baron had 23 pts, 5 assts, 4 rebounds. Well done!

From our angle behind Iona bench, that last shot was dead on to go in-- incredibly it fell short.

Some thoughts:
1. Probably one of the most emotional games I can remember in recent memory. Don't think anyone in the building was able to exhale at any point until Baron missed the final shot. 2. Best job we could've hoped for to contain Baron tonight. The hand checks were frustrating but the team stuck to their game plan of making everyone else beat us, and it clearly paid off. 3. Bowman's 2 FTs were about as clutch as they come in any situation, and couldn't think of anyone else who I'd rather hit those shots than him. The detail that gets overlooked is the play that preceded it, which could've been disastrous, with a near five second violation, jump ball and turnover all within grasp. 4. Not worried about AJ. He didn't force any shots, most of his misses were off quality shots, and his ball handling and defense was solid. 5. DL3's performance was impossible to evaluate. Did some amazing things with passing and ballhandling, but was non existent as a scoring threat and got beaten out on the boards a bunch. Also, very frustrating that he keeps picking up soft fouls. Would like to see him give up hard fouls that leave no room for made shots if he's going to pick up any at all. 6. Sean was outstanding tonight, and in the matchup of senior leaders, clearly got the best of Baron. 7. We had some horrible passes that made the game a lot closer than it needed to be. Isaiah had a few, DL3's inbound that led to an easy 2 FTs for Baron, Sean's errant pass early in the game, etc. If we're going to turn the ball over it needs to be on plays that don't lead to immediate buckets or transition fouls. 8. Poole picking up ticky tack early fouls continues to be an issue. Picked up his second foul today on a play that was 60+ feet from our basket, and totally changes our substitution patterns. 9. Two SportsCenter Top 10 candidates with Isaiah's block and Tre's put back. 10. Sean's buzzer beater to end the first half was refreshing and brought back memories of Momo's walk off halftime buzzer beater against the Jaspers in last year's final.
All in all, a great team win. Bring on the Japers. Go Gaels!!!

05, your points 7 and 8 will be especially important tomorrow night. Have to avoid bad passes against Manhattan and make sure we don't pick up soft fouls.
By the way, on that inbounds pass by DL I thought the turnover could have been avoided if AJ came to the ball more aggressively, but I agree that that the pass itself left a lot to be desired.
Manhattan is going to try to mug our ball handlers in their pressure D. We have to anticipate the double teams and pass out of them early. I still want DL breaking the press in the second half.
