95 we won by about 15 at garden in holiday festival first round. 3-2 against them since valvano era. 5 games in 30+ years for a couple of decent programs 20 or so miles apart is pretty ridiculous when you think about it. And none in 19 years since we beat them really shows they want no part of us. The two games in the Ruland era were part of the ECAC metro playoffs, so those weren't even scheduled. In 76 they made the mistake of visiting us and never will again after the lost. The next two were the playoffs I mentioned. Then they avoided us for 12 more years before they decided to have us in the Lapchick, because they no longer felt we were a threat and they needed a local team to draw attendance, that game they hung on to beat us. Finally in 95 they allowed us to play them in the first game of the Holiday festival because they thought we were the worse team in the field, since we sucked for several years, they paid and have hidden from us ever since.

Bracket project has us as a 6 right now playing West Virginia.CJB Fell asleep at half time, but watched just about 1st half of West Virginia--Texas...It is now my Number 1 worst basketball display this year... With about a minute to halftime, the Mountaineers had scored all of 14 point and looked horrible doing it...and they were a projected No. 3 seed...They have two highly touted guards who scored a total of 2 baskets between them...With the projected NIT teams, I see only a few we would have trouble matching up with.......

I might have told this story before. Iona was scrimmaging St. John's and Bob Santini dribbled between the legs of whoever the St. J star was. Santini was immediately yanked from the game and the coach made it clear: "Dammit we're trying to schedule these guys!".

If we are a 5, 6 or 7 in the NIT these would be the most likely match-ups, assuming the committee keeps us away from a west coast team:
1. SJU 2. Gtown 3. Providence 4. West Virginia 5. Marquette 6. Maryland 7. Illinois 8. Clemson 9. Indiana

The Bracket matrix updated its NIT field today. Right now we have the 9th best RPI in the tourney. Hopefully, we won't get totally hosed in the seeding. bracketmatrix.com/nit.html

I admit I will watch the selection show with a dream that somehow we get a bid, now I would say its less than a 1% chance but I will still hope. The one thing I wonder is our name in the room to start. Our rpi is even with the first four out. My guess is we are discussed for a few minutes and immediately eliminated. Our only argument is that with IW we are a top 40 rpi team. It's not going to happen but I will still dream until the field's complete. I will say I think we may end up a 5 seed in the nit after all these automatic qualifiers get in the nit, but that would eliminate the st chicken first round game.

05, providence is in the ncaa's and gtown will probably get a 1 seed, since they want them at the garden

Willard is refusing to go to any tourney but the nit, Willard is an idiot. Iona could have benefited from a cit bid their first 20 win season. I hope this guy never goes to the post season!

More #1 seeds fell last night, is getting more likely we will be a 5 seed and less likely we play st chicken, at this point a 4 seed and a home game is not impossible. If we were to be matched up with Illinois they can't play a home game due to renovations, so that is a chance at a home game as well.
With all these 1 seeds losing in small conferences, in the future I can see the nit getting rid of the auto bid or possibly expanding the field to include a play in round for all the small leagues.
