On this board we have been able to keep the focus off individual players. Let's end this overanalysis of a really good kid who is enjoying his Iona experience. I agree.

Sledge is best athlete on the team.....he is in the doghouse because he doesn't practice hard and hasn't made the commitment needed to play for a coach like cluess......he started to work harder toward end of season and also got more playin time.....I would like to see sledge start at point next year with aj at the two with a front line of amayo , Williams , and laury......I really like sledge and he is talented enough to start......I hope he does ...and I hope he kills it

Sledge's game is really being picked apart here and I will say it again, while not the star on the team he was the starting PG of the only Iona team the past 3 years to win the MAAC tourney, and may very well be next year also.

Tavon Sledge is a very talented player who always plays hard. Kids from the Valley are not punks and they have a lot of heart. He seems like a good guy and if you remember our game against Ohio State he was about the only player who did not gave up. I am rooting like hell for him.

I've seen Shaq Scott play pick up games and the claim that he is very athletic, imo, is a correct one. And while I'm confident that he'll bring shot blocking skills to our defense, I'm not sure if he's big enough (height/weight) to play the four and be an effective rebounder. Got a chance to speak with him in Springfield and he seems like a nice guy. He told me that he's about a month away from being 100% recovered from his injury and is looking forward to next season. After watching a replay of the Manhattan game, I'm sure that we need addl rebounding next year.

tiger, before his injury, I would say so. I'm just not sure that he's strong enough to play PF. I know that TC prefers guys that can run the court and I think that Shaq can do that, also.

I will continue to respectfully give my opinions as to players abilities...If there are some that feel otherwise, I will defend with all my being their right to their opinions. If those that do not understand that a player can ''Be a really good kid'', but also a ''mediocre basketball player'' and we have to treat 20 years olds with kit gloves so as to beware not to hurt their feeling then the generation gap is larger then what life has led me to believe.... With luck many of you will become a future old curmudgeon with generation gaps of your own.

If you look at the thread, I don't think anyone was disrespectful.

OT--Most of the time I respect you and appreciate your perspective.
I do challenge some of what you said here:
"This board is mainly a place to voice your basketball opinions...I have tried hard to always voice mine in a respectful way even though it may not be what others might want to hear...Instead of using analysis only, they add the word ''over'' to make it appear in some way disrespectful. No way is that word showing disrespect..I have noticed more with each posting a attempt not to dispute opposing views, but to shut them down, a dangerous memory road....How is that word shutting you down? It's a "respectful" opinion.
I will continue to respectfully give my opinions as to players abilities...If there are some that feel otherwise, I will defend with all my being their right to their opinions. If those that do not understand that a player can ''Be a really good kid'', but also a ''mediocre basketball player'' Calling Sledge "mediocre" is "respectful?" Hardly! ..and we have to treat 20 years olds with kit gloves so as to beware not to hurt their feeling then the generation gap is larger then what life has led me to believe....Big difference between handling with kid gloves (in private) and calling them out on a public board.
With luck many of you will become a future old curmudgeon with generation gaps of your own. " Some of us 65+ guys already have several generation gaps with the players.
For my two cents, having "a really good kid" emerge from our program is the most important thing about cheering for these 20 year olds. We don't need to be bashing them on this board. If we did, there were several players on this year's team who might also come under the microscope.
