Sledge is hardly mediocre. He is one of the most athletic player I've had the pleasure of rooting for at Iona. His dunks are a thing of beauty and there is not greater basketball joy than seeing him block the shot of a player a foot taller.

I think our question (group question) to the coaching staff would be:
What does have Tavon have to do to earn more PT, next season?

A player I am more curious about is Grant Ellis. supposed to be a good 3 point shooter from those that have seen him play. As a 3rd year sophomore and the losses of Armand, Poole and Bowman who all play his position it would be important for him to step up and contribute in the rotation next year

i don't think ellis can play at this level, i remember people saying we recruited over him and i agree, he could be a great shooter but seems very tentative. i don't see him playing over any returning players and since we had another good season i would expect another player or two to play right away

as far as sledge his height hurts him, even when he plays good defense a player can shoot right over him, and even though he could still dunk this year, he seemed to lose a step going to the basket which gives the defense time to recover and block his shots

Ellis looked amazing at meet the Gaels day, this kid has potential, he just has to harness his talent.

practice is a lot slower than game action, and just because you can shoot during practice doesn't mean he has a quick enough release to shoot during games

i'm sick of this Tavon talk, this kid is a good player and had a tough year. We all have tough years and for you division I athletes like myself sometimes you have an off year. For Christ sake the kid went to Iowa State on a scholarship (Top 25 basketball team this year) i think he has the talent to play at Iona. Every player has things to improve on and i'm pretty sure he will improve on them over the summer but i wouldn't count him out at all. So please let's stop talking about his weaknesses. Lastly doesn't anyone remember what happened during mid-season when he tweeted about this board. He pays attention to this board and if i was him reading this i would be pissed and use it as motivation. Lastly the two players i'm looking most forward to watch next year are Amayo and Scott. Both bring a new dynamic to the team, Amayo with his physical presence and athleticism. Scott brings his athleticism as well but also he will help down low with his leaping ability and physicality. 3 spots are open and it will be an interesting summer to see who else enrolls at iona.

Some things I agree with and others, disagree. 1. Sledge's size hurts him. I disagree. One of the top PG's in DIV I bb is Chaz Williams at UMASS, who is the same size as Tavon. What hurts TS in my opinion is his outside shooting and decision making. He can work on his shot over the summer, but I'm not sure how you improve your decision making. Do you watch film of games with a coach, who can point out the correct/incorrect plays by a PG? I really don't know. But it seems logical that he can't improve w/o PT. 2. Scott brings leaping ability (I agree) and physicality. Have no idea how physical he plays. And he's not very "broad". Just hope he's stronger than he looks. 3. Agree about Amayo. Pretty sure he'll be our starting OG next season.

Ellis has the length and the stroke to succeed in this system, at least by appearance. Hope he can harness that next year and contribute.

practice is a lot slower than game action, and just because you can shoot during practice doesn't mean he has a quick enough release to shoot during games It was a scrimmage and he has a very quick release, confidence and consistency are probably his problem.

The possibility that because of it a player will work harder and perform better is alien to this ''I am waiting for my government check to come in Nation''....... In the little I saw Ellis play in season games, I agree....He seemed constricted and ''Bench looking'...But in a pre-season practice game, when he got considerable time and freedom he scored about 25-30 points and looked very impressive...Perhaps when the cuffs come off he will with that freedom become a valuable team member.... I of course am not qualified to analyze...but hope I am free to a opinion......
