05, i am not saying we having bad coaches, but for all our success the last 4 yrs, we won 1 MAAc tournament, lost to santa clara at home, were embarrassed at home against st bonnies, show me the wins when we don't have the better players, look up the record the last 4 yrs in close games, show me where its better now- we our a scheme team, if the other team knows how to stop us we don't have any other way to win. La tech was a better version of us that HUSTLES back on defense, we still don't ask all our players to do that- and the bs that la tech was such a hard game, look at the chat room at least 4 or 5 people in the first half said we were the better team. People also said that against clev st, nevada and n iowa. I am glad the coaching staff has us as one of the best maac teams every year, but we do need to be able to beat teams slightly better than us sometimes, not ohio st, but i would like to see us upset a team or two a yearand maybe learn how to manage the end of games, was it really a shock that we lost a game were up 5 with 3 minutes left, i would say half our loses in the cluess era have been like that, ahving said that i think the coaching staff has done a great job bringing in players that are above maac expectations but they need to be better fundamently at the end of games, defense and rebounding. 70...overall you have a good point, and we need to squeeze out a few more wins in OOC games next year. No question about that. However, if you look at the team's record in 50-50 type OOC games under Cluess I think you'll be surprised to see the team is not as abysmal in those games as you seem to think. Believe we're around a .500 team in those games, maybe just slightly below that, and that's exactly where a mid major program is expected to be in those games. So point is the staff is average in those games. Not overly impressive by any means, but not also wild underachievers as you seem to paint them to be.

Reference OOC games. We play a very tough OOC sked and most are on the road. We do pretty well considering our schedule and the NCAA Selection Committee recognized our performance when we got an At Large bid.

OOC results against teams ranked 70-150, 2010 2-2 2011 5-0 magical yr got us an at large 2012 2-3 2013 1-4 not as good as you think, this doesn't count the tougher games that i don't expect us to win. but we have been ranked better than 70 3 of the last 4 yrs so our record could be better record in games decided by 5 or lees 2010 5-7 2011 4-4 2012 6-10 2013 4-5 much improvement needed here since in games decided by 6 or more we win probably 80% of our games

Our OOC in 2013 was hindered by not having IW.
Our record in close games in 2012 was a fluke.

guy, we still shouldn't have lost to nevada or got blown out at home against st bonnies, difference of being in the at large discussion it might be a fluke how many close games we played in 2012, but teams that won 80% or better of the other games needs to be able to execute at the end of games to be over .500 in close games.

Road games are a different monster, and it's not like Nevada was a 200+ RPI team. But Bonaventure, I agree. The Cluess system by nature isn't designed to win close games, or even postseason games. You can't change who you are on demand.

This past season we lost some OOC games, when we were playing without IW. He made a big difference in the team.

I think there are two sides to the coin. While it's fair to say that we underachieved a bit in OOC (no matter that the excuses), we also overachieved in conf play. Even in a watered down MAAC going 17-3 was quite an accomplishment.
I'm a big fan of the staff's, but I will say that one area we need to improve in, which nobody has pointed out, is killer instinct. Watching the successful mid majors in the NCAAs, the one thing they all have in common is killer instinct and they never take their foot off the pedal. I think we can use some improvement in this department. Hopefully our guys play the entire season with a chip on their shoulder next year. Would be nice to send a message to everyone we play that this team has a point to prove.

They have improved the second half starts, but still have a hell of a time closing the first half strong. That's the killer instinct.
