So the Barc is hosting every local team...but Iona. Great. Perhaps the Barc considers that any school not in the 5-boros is not a "local". St. Francis of Brooklyn got a game there last year. If they think that St. John's vs. Tulane would be a better game and $$$ draw that St. John's vs. Iona then how can a local college fan argue with that absurd logic?

The Barc is managed by the same company (AEG) that manages the Prudential Center. Maybe they are pissed at the MAAC for turning down their bid that went to Springfield and the fact Ensor gave the next few years to the TUC without a bidding process?

So Manhattan is leaving the MAAC? They get a pass because of the Pitino connection. Manhattan is also willing to have Steve Masiello do a series of commercials stressing the importance of obtaining a degree to be shown during the games. Also... who really wants to watch the "Battle of the Bronx" being played in Brooklyn? Maybe we can take on Pace for the "Battle of Westchester" and play it at the Rockland Community College Fieldhouse? We can schedule a game there for about $3K.

They had some fun concerts there back in the day. J. Geils, Meat Loaf, Billy Joel, Blue Oyster Cult, Heart, Beach Boys, Mountain, Doobie Brothers, Hot Tuna, Joan Jett, Steppenwolf, Richie Havens, Sha-Na-Na, Styx.....

Since he came to Iona TC and the AD have done a great job of crafting OOC schedules that have consistently provided the potential for low RPIs and post season performance while getting the team toughened up for conference play...all done without the help of MSG or The Barc. If it happens for us then great. If not then we'll still survive and hopefully continue to thrive. But CTBill is right. The whole thing is fishy.

Did a little research abouth the Barc for the upcoming season: Coaches vs. Cancer (Nov 21 and 22) - Duke, UNLV, Stanford and Temple e Just a shame that we can't get involved with this, given the history with Valvano. And the fact that our program is strong and would put on a very good show.

For the Barc I think LIU and St. Francis make a lot of sense since they're the local teams. St. John's and Hofstra are pretty close and St. John's is the flagship NYC program, so they make sense. Manhattan and Fordham are different. Manhattan has been good lately; I can understand inviting them. I hate to pick on Fordham, but they've essentially done nothing basketball-wise for many years and don't have much of a fanbase, which leads me to believe they are paying to get in there. Pretty much like they paid to get on SNY. If you're not good, simply buy your way in.
For us, I honestly think we could win a national championship and not get invited to the Barc or MSG. We'll be a national story, but the medieval tribalism of NYC will keep us out of these arenas. Its this cutting edge vision that keeps NYC basketball an afterthought. As long as we stay a bunch of warring crime families like the Gambinos and the Sopranos or whoever, college basketball in NYC will never regain the prominence it once had. Hey but St. John's will be the kings of Astoria.
I'm with CJB; its only a good venue for us if we can play a quality opponent.

Any updates on possibly renewing home-and-homes with any A10 schools? Sadly, in this climate of college hoops, that's probably the very highest level we can expect to land at home. St. Bona? George Mason? What about St. Joe's? I'd have to think, RPI-wise, it would be attractive to both sides...
