Speaking of the grapevine...is it saying anything about possible recruits? Nothing.... this staff could teach the CIA and the KGB a thing or two about controlling leaks.

The only way that we'll hear anything is if a recruit tweets that he has signed, or a competitor announces that he has signed with them. After all the info has been leaked, and reported on numerous blogs then the school will reluctantly issue a press release.

...After all the info has been leaked, and reported on numerous blogs then the school will reluctantly issue a press release. In all fairness, it's not totally on the school... any official release before the LOI is in hand is an NCAA violation. If I recall correctly, Iona traditionally waits to release all signings together which adds to the delay. By the time the official news does come out, it's pretty anti-climatic as it's old news.

Cjb, very true that the school can't release info until a LOI is received. Now most kids seem to fax in their LOI's, and many schools, after receiving the LOI will leak the info to their favorite blogger, knowing that their own release will come later. Or in Iona's case, much later.

Medical issues are usually not addressed in any official release since it could violate privacy laws. Today this type of info can only travel via the grapevine.
86.......Could you please tell me where in the Penal Code I would find a section entitled ''Privacy Laws''...One may Slander, libel, or intrude illegally, but they are dealt with in separate Sections...The Key is....''Is it the truth'', and was it ''legality obtained''... We are losing our rights fast enough, even to the point where certain laws are not to be enforced, at the will of those entrusted to do so.... My time is short, but beware Americans, beware......
OT it is a federal statute that protects individuals' private health information. You won't find it in any state penal code. It enhances our rights to privacy. It doesn't take away any of our rights, unless we believe we have a right to know what's going on with our favorite basketall team

Guys, These are artificial dates with our staff who scour the availability of potential "recruits." Many of our key "signings" have occurred outside the "official" signing period.
Relax, enjoy, worry, deliberate as the next 4 months evolve!
OT--No penal code, but I send you to the following site: www.ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/fpco/ferpa/index.htmlThe Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. ยง 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.
FERPA gives parents certain rights with respect to their children's education records. These rights transfer to the student when he or she reaches the age of 18 or attends a school beyond the high school level. Students to whom the rights have transferred are "eligible students."We are not "losing rights" as you suggest, but protecting them. Why should you have the "right" to know about any student's medical condition?

Not sure if this is true, but there's a rumor going around that two recruits faxed in their signed LOI's, yesterday, but they weren't received because the fax machine in the BB office was out of paper. The good news is that the paper is on order.

Believe we have 6 recruits on campus this week, so the remaining 2-3 open spots should be filled soon.
