The All American JUCO showcase is being held this weekend, I am sure the staff is out there and some former Iona recruits or players we were linked with are playing: Lets hope the staff has a successful recruiting weekend.
Novian Cherry Bashir Ahmed Taylor Bessick Obinna Oleka Leroy Fludd Shane Rector Mike Ramey

Though not confirmed I understand that TC and JG are in or were in Vegas this week/weekend with two scholarships in hand. If they are successful we should know within a week or two. If we don't hear anything, then I would take that as bad news.

A clue might be someone who hasn't been participating in the pickup games at Hynes. On a note of good news, rumor has it that the Greek kid should arrive in a week or two.

Early on Sledge was there, then he became a father. He has posted often on Instagram showing the baby. That could be his reason for not being there or more likely maybe he saw in early summer practices he will not get back the minutes he got his sophomore year now that Casimair is here and he is looking for a better opportunity his senior year.

I86, lots of good players on that list.
Can you clarify, is this JUCO Showcase for 2014 players?
If so, how can so many of these good players have fallen through the cracks (unsigned)?

Novian Cherry - Could have been 2014 decided to stay the 2nd year in JUCO. Bashir Ahmed - 2016 Taylor Bessick- available immediately Obinna Oleka - available, would have destroyed the MAAC... not qualified from what I understand. Will end up in NAIA. Kid would have eaten any MAAC level big for breakfast including Pankey. Leroy Fludd - 2015 recruit. Shane Rector - 2015 recruit. Would have to sit out a year if he came to Iona.... wanted to go JUCO so he could play and see who recruits him. Mike Ramey - available immediately.

For the Vegas showcase there is one player attending that Iona had been linked with in the past as well as some there intriguing prospects:
Joel Angus - 6'6" Sf Westchester CC. Former Bishop Loughlin and Boyds and Girls star. Did a prep year at Putnum Science. Had committed to Stony Brook out of prep as a walk on but ended up in JUCO.
Intriguing Prospects: Aakim Saintil - PG out of Roselle Catholic and the University of South Alabama. Was recruited by FDU, St. Louis and Florida Gulf in high school. Rated 2.3 stars while in high school. Dayvion Draper - Rated an 84 out of High School. 6'6" SF. Very athletic. Mike Owona - 6'9" Center from John Carroll in baltimore. Had offers from Bucknell, Fairfield, Lehigh, LIU, UMBC and looks from Auburn, Oregon and Penn State. Went to FDU. Tiwian Kendley - 6'5" SF from Baltimore. Averaged 17 last season at Lamar CC. Xavier Dupree - 6'9" PF. Recruited by Baylor, Arkansas State, Nevada, Wichita St. and USTA. Deonte Hearns - 6'6" SF played at Manatee-Sarasota as a freshman. Being recruited by South Carolina State, Jacksonville, Bethune-Cookman. Averaged 19 points and 13 rebounds per game. Tim Myles - 6'7" PF New Mexico transfer. Rated a 66 by ESPN.

I thought Taylor Bessick was at JMU last season. Wouldn't he have to sit out?

Really wish this kid would have used IW as a role model. Suspended for about 12 games last year. Released from scholarship at Texas. Fludd--I've been keeping my fingers crossed about this kid for 2 years. Prototypical TC player.

I thought Taylor Bessick was at JMU last season. Wouldn't he have to sit out? Correct. When I said available immediately I meant that he could come to campus immediately. He would be a transfer from one Div 1 program to another. The JUCO's that were ineligible coming out of high school ,that attempted to get throughout the clearinghouse, would need to graduate from the JUCO, have a minimum of 48 transferrable hours with a 2.5 GPA, that includes 6 hours of English, 3 hours of Math and 3 hours of Natural and Physical Science, no more than 2 PE credit hours can be used and attend a JUCO for at least three full-time semesters. If they were qualified out of high school but when JUCO directly or after going to another NCA institution they would need to spend at least one full-time term at the JUCO, have a 2.5 GPA, have an average of 12 transferrable hours per semester, no more than 2 PE credit hours can be used (A 4-2-4 transfer must also graduate and one year elapse since departure from original 4-year school). So out of the players on the list that we had been involved with: Novian Cherry - could have come now and played. Bashir Ahmed - has to play two years of JUCO unless he never attempted the clearinghouse. Taylor Bessick - would have to sit a year. Obinna Oleka - Not qualified, will end up in NAIA I assume. Shame... great player and just what we need. Leroy Fludd - has to play another year in JUCO and graduate Shane Rector - would have to sit a year if he went NCAA now... will play a year in JUCO and then transfer. Mike Ramey - Could play immediately.

At this point, of all the bigs (> 6'7") mentioned on this board and (supposedly) available for 2014, can it be concluded that the best seems to be Florida Gulf Coast's Eric McKnight?
Not sure if Iona has even reached out to him, but of all the names bantered about he sounds like the player who could most likely make an immediate impact.
Anyone else want to second this conclusion?
