Not to pile on AJ who is a good player. . .you can't have 6 turnovers last night and average 4 turnovers for the season against only an average of 5 assists. Amayo had 4 turnovers last night and is averaging 3 turnovers for the season playing much less than AJ. This team collectively needs a lot better decision-making with the ball and also defensively with the full court pressure evident in earlier games having disappeared recently.
this topic should cease, its disrespectful to all the great players that we had, they played defense and unselfish and played to win. AJ is a taller version of momo, not big enough to play in the nba, he didn't work on his handle during the off season which he needed to do to play in the nba and that shows me something he doesn't play bad defense, that would be disrespectful to bad defensive players he plays no defense at all
Sorry but this is uncalled for if you ask me. AJ is the hardest working kid on the team if you speak to anybody in the program. He gives us close to 40 mins every night, and to say he plays selfishly or doesn't play to win is ridiculous. He is our most well rounded player and one of the most talented offensive players we've seen in a while.
Does he play high energy defense? No, but neither does anyone who's a scorer in Cluess' system maybe with the exception of Isaiah. He also is one of the few players we have seen in a long time with a killer instinct that has won several games for us in the final minutes. He's also proven to be a team player time and time again through his actions, whether it's playing out of position at PG or improving his body to become a rebounding asset for us, and so on.
Is he perfect? No. But he's about as good as we can expect to get at our level. Sounds like lots of unfair criticism to me.

This to me is the reason this team has disappointed, a lot of dumb turnovers.

Please run that through me again.........I have read it several times and each time got a different message.....

He's not that well rounded. His defense is not great, and his ball handling and decisions are not great. He's a great scorer, but he's not the most well rounded Gael. That's been IW since he first stepped onto a court for us.
The greatest poster in the history of the MAAC as determined by THREE separate polls.
Pretty harsh criticism about AJ by some. Season expectations for AJ have been for him to score and be a leader on this team. I feel most nights he has filled that role very well. With being the marked man he now needs to find ways to contribute when opportunities are limited. That takes time. In my opinion he is the best option to take "the shot" at the end of the game. As mentioned previously by others the Cluess system has not meant good defense or rebounding. The pattern with previous teams has been uneven results early with strong finishes to year. I feel this is the product of so many new players each year. Patience is needed for this group as past groups. This is Coach Cluess' team to direct and motivate. I trust he will make adjustments and find ways to get more consistent effort resulting in better results.
See i think AJ is a good player but he's not a great player just yet. He's a great shooter but has difficulty getting by defenders in one on one scenarios. Speed wise, he isn't blazing fast and doesn't have a quick first step so it makes it a little more difficult for him and in turn makes him more of a physical player. He has a good handle but not great and his defense isn't good at all. He also makes very poor decisions with the ball, not just passing but at times shooting the ball. To me i think he has the talent and tools but he needs to improve in many other areas of his game. Some will call me harsh but it's the reality.
If he stays healthy AJ should end up as one of the top 5 or 6 scorers in school history. That is very impressive considering he missed half of his freshman season. Does he make some bad dishes when trying to do too much... sure. Is he a as good a defender as IW.... nope. Does he handle the ball as well as Machado or Rory Grimes... no. But is he a leader... yes. He seems to have established a great relationship mentoring Casimir and that will pay off down the road for us. Any way you slice it AJ is a great player and one of the best players to ever walk on campus. At the end of the day its about the buckets.

To be fair, it was his defensive closeout that got us a chance late. But I will agree that his defensive inspiration is fairly nonexistent.
guy he is like carmelo he can play D but usually chooses not to, fear of foul trouble, scoring avg suffers, no I in team

last year he wsn't the best 3 pt shooter but took the most shots by far, this yr he is not and he has taken the most as well when he goes to the basket he might be the best at that IW is the best defender both yrs Armond developed his game to be a better all around player and last yr if you look at his assist/to ratio is was ridiculous IW would have better numbers if he had the green light that aj has if i was starting a team in the maac, i would pick laury and iw before aj, but i know you don't care about defense since the coach doesn't as well so you won't see that

The jealous resentment of A.J. English continues............I have seen this kind of resentment many times over the years................Attack its best player no matter what he does do, or how good he is...
A.J. has been a example of a perfect team member...He never fails to give a full effort...He plays almost the entire game...He inspires and guides the younger members of the team...He for a time was the leading scored in the Nation...Although he is one of the Nations top Pro recruits, if he happens to have a game that does come up to his usual high standards, attack it, and suggest that it was because he ''chooses not to play defense because his scoring average suffers'' That line exposes much and disregards the thought that he was instructed to be careful of foul trouble, for without him the chances of winning the game are greatly diminished...
There are players on Iona that need constructive criticism, but to continually find picayune faults of arguably your best player smacks of ''knock their best'' as it will ''diminish the rest'' long used attack treatment...
