st Louis my point is all time great mean top5 , top 10 ot top25 that is how this whole thing started I see 25 but not 5 or 10 , I asked for a definition somewhere and this all started The funny thing about the criticism of this thread is that, as of today: - AJ is the #1 scorer in the nation. - We are 7-4 with road wins against ACC and CUSA teams. - AJ is shooting nearly 50% from the field and 41% from 3 pt, higher than Momo and equal to Machado in both of their MVP seasons (when both were seniors). - AJ's 5.7 RPG are the most of any guard in nearly 20 years. - AJ's "selfish" 5.0 APG are the most of any guard not named Machado in exactly 20 years. - AJ has hit more game winning and clutch late game shots than Momo, Machado and Sean combined. Yet this thread is not worth keeping open and is disrespectful to the other greats, nearly all of whom AJ is on a path to surpass...simply because he doesn't play intense defense, like all of the other great Cluess coached scorers who preceded him did? Why all the negativity? You just stated mostly his offensive ability which neither of us are disputing. We are making a mention of his defensive ability and how he needs to improve it. I think he's a gifted offensive player but those numbers reflect the system he is in. It's a 10 second or less system, in reality not many NBA systems play like that.

My point is that it's not out of line to mention him alongside the greats. When all is said and done would be shocked if he's not top 10, and even top 5.

I'm with Iona 05. Let's give AJ a rest. He is another great Gael player. Let's relax and enjoy it. I started at Iona in 1965. Look back at the records of those days and you will appreciate how far this program has come. C'mon Dingos, let's stop eating our babies.

Merry Christmas. Wishing the team and coaching staff a wonderful holiday and break from basketball. After all it is just a game. Looking forward to the remaining schedule and the excitement of the unknown. To me the great aspect of team sports is there is no script and outcomes are unknown. Just sit back and enjoy the talents of these young players. We are fortunate to have the group we do representing Iona. GO GAELS!

A.j. Can play on my team anytime....[/quote] Having attended, traveled to, listen to and watched on T.V. IONA basketball for close to 70 years, I rank A.J. in the top 15 all time Iona players...His ranking has another year and half to improve...Perfection is the impossible to stride for goal, but the nearest players to reach it, were Richie Guerin, Steve Burt Sr. Gary Springer Sr. Jeff Ruland, Warren Isaac, and a surprise Mindaugas Timinskas who later became a overseas All Star... In their prime this team with waiting on the bench to get in S. Green, D. Brown R. Grimes Mike Glover and my favorite T. Kirksay with English somewhere in the final 15...... This would be a strong and troublesome team for other matchups in the College basketball world.....

Amen. AJ is the man. The fact that he had a couple of "off" games is only a testament to how those teams played him. As explosive a player as we've ever had.
Go Gaels!!!

AJ is a great college player right now and I love watching him play and I'm thrilled we are fortunate enough to have him as part of our program. As far as going to the next level it is well documented what his flaws are. There are no secrets with NBA scouts even if they haven't seen a player. All scouts have the ability to log into a program that pulls up any player on any team at anytime in their college career. They can view clips of anything they want to see from a player ,and highlight whatever they need. They also get a consensus on a player in various categories. If AJ can improve his defense and ball handling by the end of his senior year he very well could succeed at the next level. In the meantime I will enjoy watching him with the realization that players like him that come around too often.

This thread is very unfair to the rest of the roster.
Shame on you all

OT, thanks for defining all time greats so we almost agree you have him around 16 i have him in the 20's, i asked at the beginning if people meant top 5, so i guess there wasn't any dispute except maybe with 05, 05 you need to remember his offense his higher do to the system just like his defense is worse

Wonder if everyone is on the AJ bandwagon at this point. Defensive effort has improved, rebounding has been good, and has one of the highest bball IQs we've seen in a while at Iona. Never forces the issue, makes everyone around him better, and always hits the clutch shot for us.
BTW, after AJ hit the dagger shot last night two of the nba scouts sitting on the floor looked at each other and smiled, saying he was league bound.

I went to game today. Q's arena complex is amazing! AJ needs to stop with the fake injury game. His acting skills are laughable. Reminds me of the pro soccer players. He also carries his dribble routinely and isn't being called for it. I am amazed by how lax he is around the half court line. I can see why NBA scouts would be interested, but he is shooting himself in the foot with his antics. Don't blow it AJ. He was rightfully booed by the fans at end of game when he pulled that stunt.

Yeah that isn't fooling anyone and then he missed the front end of the one and one. Just focus on the game.
