Iona Rugby is a member of the highest division (Rugby East). Every team in this collegiate league, is considered, a premiere program in the rugby world. They opened with a scrimmage vs Fordham (lower div),and won big. Last Saturday 9/13, they traveled up to face St. Bonaventure, a team that has trophy cases of rugby hardware. The Bonnies took one on the chin. Iona 36 - St Bonnie 24. Welcome to the Rugby East Iona, you belong.

Good job guys! Given that the guys at Army are soldiers, have to think they are extremely well conditioned. Very impressive to hang with them.

Saturday (10/18) was Home Coming. Iona fans were everywhere. On both sides of the field the stands were packed . The over-fill fans lined 2 deep along much of the fencing and the Alumni tent was full. Cheer leaders, Iona Dancers and the Iona Bag Pipper marching band all put on a great show. Then the Iona Ruggers took the field. A squad of almost 40 players and former players took up most of their half of the side line. Saint Bonaventure sent out their top 11 players,Iona the same. The Bonnie's scored on their first possession while Iona turned the ball over. The balance soon shifted. Final score Iona 41 - St. Bonnie 16.

Penn State, ranked #5 in the college rugby world visits Iona Nov 15 @ 1p.m. This is probobly the highest ranking rugby team to ever play on Iona's home turf. Although I don't expect any miracles here,it's still a great acomplishment to be playing in a conference that has 3 of the top five nationally ranked Div 1 rugby teams. Iona represented themselves well. Good luck.
