He is so positive it is exciting. Waiting for a comment on how good the student managers are.

He is so positive it is exciting. Waiting for a comment on how good the student managers are. We probably fed him. His level of interest in a team is usually in direct proportion to the amounts and quality of the food he is given. This guy thinks everyone looks good. Just saying.

Jon Rothstein @jonrothstein · 14s Cluess on Kelvin Amayo "He's a great four-man for us. He'll also play some point guard for us too. He can do a lot of things."

Nice to hear so much positivity from both Rothstein and Coach Cluess. Especially interesting to read the comment about Grant Ellis. No mention of Robinson and Hines though. If AJ and IW both take a step up from last year, they may be battling one another for MAAC Player of the Year.

Great news to hear about Kelvin Amayo. No mention of restrictions or recovery from injury. Hopefully everyone can stay healthy and we go a little deeper in the bench to prevent health issues. Hearing David Laury's conditioning has improved bodes well coupled with Dublin, Hines and Robinson coming off the bench to absorb some punishment. If David's outside shooting and free throws have improved he will be a match-up problem for most MAAC opponents. Anxiously awaiting other's observations of the current team.

Lol... you my find this hard to believe but I am hearing that Laury has actually been dropping threes in practice and his confidence in taking the outside shot appears to have improved. He did that in high school on a regular basis and it helped to open up his game.

Forgot at the time to post this observation... Over the years I have acquired a first impression sense that I have come with success to depend on...About a month or so ago prior to a free lance practice, I was outside Hynes talking to 4 or 5 players who had gathered, when Casimir walked up and asked them for a ball...They introduced him to me... I soon observed that this was not one of those wide-eyed freshman, but a all business and confident young man...During practice his demeanor and playing style only re-enforced that observation... If he as good as is thought, he will not be one that needs much playing time before fully blossoming, but will immediately enter the fray... Every so often a player will rise above his height disadvantage....Casimir could join that group......

Coach Cluess' comment about AJ and Isaiah I take as a challenge to both players to push through to the next level. His comments about David appear to be an acknowledgment of his effort to improve. Wonderful to hear after the disappointment on David's face after missing the 3 and losing to Manhattan in the MAAC Tournament. The development of the players under Coach Cluess and his staff is a testament to their ability to connect with these young men. I honestly believe that the word is spreading through the high school and AAU ranks that Iona College is a desirable destination for those wanting to play college basketball and getting a degree. The downside of the success will be the offers extended to Coach Cluess and members of his staff to go elsewhere. Looking forward to the 2014-2015 season.
