RPI is the formula the NCAA uses to compare teams from different conferences for NCAA seeding purposes and at-large invitations. It can also be used as one bit of evidence to support the success of a program over a period of time versus a program's peers. Here is Iona compared to its geographical peers over the last five years, courtesy of Blue Ribbon (the Bible).
1. Iona 89-68-48-104-62 Average = 74 2. St. John's 87-28-156-91-82 Average = 89 3. Manhattan 226-296-140-185-61 Average = 182 4. Hofstra 154-88-266-325-276 Average = 222 5. Fordham 305-254-243-232-225 Average = 252

Those numbers, and their significance should be made clear to every potential recruit when they visit Iona.

Where does Seton Hall and Rutgers rank in this group? New Jersey I'll look them up tonight. Anyone else we should look at? LIU?

Would think it's more important to look at teams that we recruit against than geographic location; i.e. SHU and RU probably more relevant to us than LIU or SFNY.

How the world has changed! Back in my time, it was NYU, St. John's, Fordham. . . . . . . . . . Iona. Back in OT's time, it was CCNY, and Iona did not even exist. St.LouieGail..........It was early 1946...I had just been discharged and getting adjusted to civilian life...My brother who was younger then me was waiting to also enter the Marine Corp... He and his younger friends talked me into attending a fledging Iona game...Thus was the start of our Iona fan gang...To the best of my memory the game was against Monclaire State Teachers College...The game was played in a recently obtained a donated war time service wooden gym... I was hooked...Since that time I probably attended, listen or watched tru-out the USA more then a 1,000 Gail games....I have reason to believe this is longevity Iona fan record...All but a scattered few are left of that fun group...... Its been quite a ride! It has been a fun trip filled with untold memories..... [/quote]
