Has the cloud over the NYC sports scene dampened everyone's mood? It is way too early in my opinion to be this pessimistic about this team. Just like past Iona teams under Coach Cluess it takes time to find the combinations and right situations to use specific players. I feel patience is needed along with faith in Coach Cluess. His consistent success is not by accident. He has a proven track record in player development. Some of these bench players have to find that role that gets them on the floor and then build from there. This TEAM is a work in progress. We know we have PLAYERS, now they have to come together as a team. That process involves our leaders (AJ, David and Isaiah) stepping it up and helping their team-mates understand what it takes. Coach Cluess' prodding of David Laury I take as his message that to be a leader you have to step it up and lead by example. I am optimistic. I standby "In Cluess we trust".

Not only at Iona - every team he has coached has consistently improved through the course of the season. We've all seen this before. Just wish we could find a way to win these games while they get their act together!

For right or wrong, many posters indicated that they felt this team could be one of the best and DEEPEST Gaels teams ever. Coach Cluess is a great coach, no denying it. Do fans have a right to question the depth of this team early in the season. ABSOLUTELY. Time will tell. but so far there is basically no play beyond a 6th man and it is concerning.

chelseadal, the main point of my post was that I believe an answer will be found by the staff to address the current shortcoming of production/minutes from the bench players. It is a process and not typically a quick fix. It is every fan's prerogative to question anything and everything. I was just presenting a counter point. At this point no one knows what the end result will be. I am just hoping and praying.

Bench players need to work hard so they aren't bench players. I don't blame the coach. I don't blame the kids either.
I suggest you all watch a Scott Machado workout video. He's good because he lives basketball 24/7.
Some kids need more time in the classroom. This is an institution for hiring learning after all.
