Dear all, assuming that players read the board, may I ask that this year we try not to air our baggage about buzzer beaters, missed FT's from 1984, referee calls, bad breaks in games, curses, 70 foot shots that go in against us? Of course I'm talking mostly to the older guys and include myself heavily in this request. The players don't need our baggage. It doesn't matter if we win on a true buzzer beater or not. JoeBird, you seem like a great guy and a great Gaels fan, but I think you'll agree it just doesn't matter. And please when the tournament starts, don't post a list of every calamity that can befall he gaels. Me I need to stop whining about Refs. We all want the team to win. We don't need to fill their heads with a bunch of fears and negative assumptions like pre-2004 Boston Red Sox fans.
Now please understand I'm not saying we should be propagandists like Rambacker on the Fordham board who simply will not acknowledge any problem with the program and will threaten anyone who does. No loyalty oaths here.
Can you spell C-l-i-c-h-e?
When did you graduate from Iona?
etc.
If we assume the players read the board, let's not saddle them with baggage they don't need. That was then; this is now. If you're afraid to lose, its awful hard to win.

CB, I for one give these kids more credit... these are focused D1 athletes, if they took banter like that seriously they probably wouldn't have reached this level.

I gotta be honest. Censoring the Board to the degree you mentioned is ridiculous. We have had this debate before. If the athletes are reading this board and taking all that is said to heart, there is a much bigger issue. Bill, it makes no sense. Sorry.
Ctbill, I like your out of the box thinking, but this is not necessary or even relevant. If today's players try to figure out what you're talking about, they'll get a headache.

I think you are suggesting that we shut down the Board.

I guess I didn't make myself clear, which is my fault and it appears my thread has prematurely sent OT into the season . I'm not saying don't criticize players performance or attitude, etc. If a guy goes 0-15 we should say he had a horrible game, although I'm glad he kept shooting! If a guy is shooting too much, not enough, dogging it call him out. Ok by me. Got to think Cluess will address these issues before we will. I'm talking about bringing up that we haven't won a tournament game in 30 years, or that we always get beat at the buzzer, or we never make our FTs in a big game because someone missed one in 1984/85. If you want to win you have to think like winners. It doesn't do any good for fans, or anyone associated with the program to keep expecting that disaster is one step away, and maintain a defeatist attitude.
Ctbill.....You continue to amaze me...You are undoubtedly a well intentioned nice guy.....But...What a sheltered life you must have led......
Come out of the rose garden and once in a while smell the foul air that permeates...
I also wish the world would be a perfumed place, but have learned long ago that is beyond reality...
OT with all due respect during the London Blitz did Churchill say, oh no we're getting bomb left and right, it's the battle of Hastings all over again. We've got no army to speak of. If they invade us now we're doomed! Or did he tell the people we will fight on the beaches, in the towns, in the streets, in our homes? Did he focus on all the negatives facing Britain? After Pearl Harbor did FDR stand up out of his wheel chair before Congress and say geez, whew, we got no Pacific Fleet now, how are we gonna win this thing? No. He said let's tool up the factories and kick some ass. That's what I talking about!!!!

That's fair 59. I really don't know the extent they would understand these references. Maybe I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill. To me, in order to help athlete's succeed, its common sense to create as positive an atmosphere as possible. Winning programs typically do this naturally, because they win. And confidence comes from continued winning.
Shortly before reading your post, I listened to a liberal commentator voice his strong objection to the use of the word terrorist as it may offend a religion who's very prophet called for the death to all infidels...
Shortly after came the story of a school and a football coach getting fined $500 because their team had scored over the 32 points point allowed... A player on the winning team intercepted a pass and went into end zone for the touchdown making the score over the embarrassment of the 32 points...I guess he was supposed to stop and fall down...
I rage as my wife tries to calm me down and says...''We are 2 old people, let them worry about it''...I try...I try...

No apology necessary OT, and Mrs. OT sounds like a wise and wonderful woman.
