Dear all, assuming that players read the board, may I ask that this year we try not to air our baggage about buzzer beaters, missed FT's from 1984, referee calls, bad breaks in games, curses, 70 foot shots that go in against us? Of course I'm talking mostly to the older guys and include myself heavily in this request. The players don't need our baggage. It doesn't matter if we win on a true buzzer beater or not. JoeBird, you seem like a great guy and a great Gaels fan, but I think you'll agree it just doesn't matter. And please when the tournament starts, don't post a list of every calamity that can befall he gaels. Me I need to stop whining about Refs. We all want the team to win. We don't need to fill their heads with a bunch of fears and negative assumptions like pre-2004 Boston Red Sox fans. Now please understand I'm not saying we should be propagandists like Rambacker on the Fordham board who simply will not acknowledge any problem with the program and will threaten anyone who does. No loyalty oaths here. Can you spell C-l-i-c-h-e? When did you graduate from Iona? etc. If we assume the players read the board, let's not saddle them with baggage they don't need. That was then; this is now. If you're afraid to lose, its awful hard to win. Should they continue to keep score, and record wins and losses?

If I was a player I'm probably more interested in a female admirer. Showing her my ball skills

I guess I didn't make myself clear, which is my fault and it appears my thread has prematurely sent OT into the season . I'm not saying don't criticize players performance or attitude, etc. If a guy goes 0-15 we should say he had a horrible game, although I'm glad he kept shooting! If a guy is shooting too much, not enough, dogging it call him out. Ok by me. Got to think Cluess will address these issues before we will. I'm talking about bringing up that we haven't won a tournament game in 30 years, or that we always get beat at the buzzer, or we never make our FTs in a big game because someone missed one in 1984/85. If you want to win you have to think like winners. It doesn't do any good for fans, or anyone associated with the program to keep expecting that disaster is one step away, and maintain a defeatist attitude. I think the coaches can handle it Bill. It isn't up to posters on team boards.

Generally I think the players are told to stay away from the boards.

Generally I think the players are told to stay away from the boards. Hope so. It's a great place you've created for fans and much appreciated by me. Nothing of value here for players IMO. Keep it simple, listen to yourself, coaches, put your headphones on as this is just noise. Stay positive.

bill, you do have the soul of a poet. Fans will be fans and our past is our history (sometimes joyful, many times, painful). None of us can forget it and it's human nature, and a fan's nature, to make comparisons and relate the present to the past. Hopefully, these guys will put together a record that will keep the fans happy. But win or lose, I know that all members of this board are proud to be Iona Gaels and support our team.
Go Gaels!!!

I agree Z. My post was never meant to criticize anyone's love for the Gaels or fandom.

Cluess and his staff must be chuckling about this thread. Pretty funny. Everyone should remember everyone is entitled to their opinion, good or bad. Let's get back to basketball!

Got to think Cluess and his staff chuckle about a lot of stuff posted on this board. And of course everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. Personally I hope Cluess/staff get chuckle at all my posts. Laughter is a good way to deal with stress. If they ridicule everything I say, laugh it up and we go to a Sweet Sixteen I'll be estatic.
