I was told that we brought Dublin in for rebounding. Well we did a lousy rebounding job, and played Dublin FOUR MINUTES. Doesn't make sense.

I'm fine with it. Cluess needs to figure out what he has with this team. I think he knows what Dublin brings. Has to figure out what else he has. Now is the time to do it and this was a good opponent for that. I'd rather lose to Wofford on the road experimenting than lose to a MAAC team at home.

Two thoughts:
Williams has to demand the ball more and find ways to get himself good looks and both the other players and Cluess have to do a better job of getting him in the flow. If he is not involved more this team will not be anywhere as good as last year.
I think we all forgot just how good a 3 point shooting team last year's ball club was. Armand and Bowman were two excellent shooters. Really wanted that team to get a shot in an NCAA game because if they had a good day from 3 they would have been tough to beat.

Today's game reminded me of the Marshall game during the at large year. Just got our doors blown off and ran into a team that brought their A game while we brought our C game.
Will be interesting to see how the team responds on Friday. That will be a telling sign.

Some observations from the game:
1. Give it until after Arkansas game before we get a clear sense of what this team is made of and what out expectations should be. Today was a distorted game in every sense, and not fair to players or coaches to make judgement based on today.
2. Will be interesting to see how much of a leash TC gives Amayo. He's been frustrating and mistake prone, but the upside is clearly there, so will be interesting to see if TC cuts him some slack or loses patience.
3. Robinson's presence is a game changer for us. Allows us to go big when we need to go big and also gives us another dimension on defense. Hope we continue to see him progress.
4. Love AJ but the defensive effort was non existent. He's one of the most gifted offensive players we've seen in a while, but wish there would be an inkling of defensive focus.
5. DL3 is unstoppable in isolation against a man defense. He needs to take his man off the dribble every time when he sees man defense. Forget about the 3 pointers.
6. Great adjustments by Wofford coming out of the half, coupled with subpar shooting, horrible defensive effort and poor positioning under the boards by us. This is why we lost.
7. Don't forget we are still playing Casimir off the ball because he isn't fully acclimated to the system yet. Once we get this kid comfortable in the offense to the point where he can play the 1 it will change things dramatically and should free up AJ to see more open shots.
8. Ellis looked good on offense, hard to count him out of the rotation at this point.
9. It's a tight knit group and the chemistry seems to be there, which is a positive at this juncture.
10. How we respond on Friday will be a telling sign of this team's mental make up. Win or lose, the intensity and focus needs to be there.
Go Gaels!!!

Imperative that the rebounding improves.
Dublin and/or Hines and/or Robinson will earn valuable playing time if they can help DL with the board duties.
This will be the key to a special season.
I'm certain Amayo will be the guy to lock down star players once MAAC play begins. He may need a half dozen games to get used to the TC system.

gregcrow, since I was told about (Dublin/Rebounding) in a private conversation, all I can say that it was by a member of the coaching staff. You seemed surprised, so I'm guessing that you think that it was his scoring or ball handling that enticed us.

Watched the second half again and it wasn't quite as bad as I thought. Iona basically went cold from the 12 minute mark to the 4 minute mark and they got hot. A key point was a Wofford guy threw a brick 3 and it went in and IW had a wide open 3 go in an out, that was a big part of the game.
It may just be a coincidence but that 8 minute collapse was the same 8 minutes Iona blew a 20 point lead Friday night.
Didn't matter but how did the refs miss the goaltending against Laury?
Final thought Dublin coming out after starting and never getting back in had to be a disciplinary thing, wonder what he did?

If nothing else today's game showed that this team is a work in progress. I understand the comments of expecting a bounce back performance Friday night and let's see how the team responds, but being realistic Wake Forest and North Texas look to be difficult matchups. Wake has one of the best big men in the ACC in 6'9'' Devin Thomas and will also play 2 other 6'9'' kids. Looking at North Texas roster they will play quite a few 6'7''-6'8'' kids that are jrs/srs, including Bashir Ahmed's brother, Muhammad who is averaging close to 9&9 in 2 games. would be thrilled to somehow split these 2 games.
2 interesting games to follow tomorrow as far as our OOC. Wake vs Arkansas and North Texas vs Delaware St.

Let's forget the 7am start. With a bunch of new guys, including starting a freshman, we went on the road and took on a NCAA Tournament team with all five starters returning in the second game of the season. I hate to lose, but I can forgive this one.
