Why did we sign him, I asked myself, when I heard that he was coming to Iona? Looked like a wasted scholarship, when we needed rebounders. After all AJ was the PG of the present and Casimir was the PG of the future, and Kelvin would be in the mix. Well now I know. Ibn knows how to run an offense, something that Cedric is just learning. It's true that he hasn't gotten much PT, but his minutes have gone from 8 to 19 to 26, and his confidence seems on the rise, also. And I hate to admit this, but maybe the coaches DO know what they're doing. (Smiley Face)
We've said this before, but typically we don't see patterns with Cluess in terms of subbing or minutes. Cluess goes with a combo of what's needed and either the hot hand or the guy who won't hurt you. If Ellis and Hines aren't hitting from deep, they're sitting because they don't bring much else to the table. Enter Mohammed, who isn't a scorer but doesn't make mental errors, can run the show, and can defend.
As for Dublin, he is undersized for his skill set, so perhaps a reason for his DNP vs Wake was because Wake was big. Against teams with smaller front lines, ie, most MAAC teams, he'll be far more effective. I think someone noted North Texas isn't big, so maybe that plus the short turnaround means we see Dublin today. Just guessing of course.

Not to move on from Ibn, but Guy's take on Dublin, while it does make sense, but I remembered someone stating that his best game last year, while at Longwood, was against St. John's. And last year SJU had a big front line, with a couple of VG shot blockers. So I've felt that he can play against taller guys. And when you get beat on the boards,55-34 and by 21-7 on offensive rebounds, you have to try something different.

Rebounds were 20-24 at half.
Final figure skewed by last 3 minutes of the game where they had at least 3x down the court when they missed so many bunnies that they had at least 9 boards on those 3 sequences. I'm not saying that we should not do better, but the difference in the stats was not as extremes as it looks.
When IBN committed to Iona I had the same reaction, why recruit another small PG, with the many options available. I reached out to a AAU coach in Baltimore who has seen him play since HS. I posted back then what Super and ic59 just posted, and matches what the AAU coach said what Iona could expect from. I am not a big AAU person but IBN played for team take over, and was considered one of the best they had. He is a tough kid who plays with a chip on his shoulder and not afraid to lead.
While I am not on twitter I always check Guy's twitter feed at the bottom of the page, though I admit for Tianna photo's, more than for basketball info. I saw a tweet from Amayo and when I clicked on it I saw a conversation where IBN was telling Amayo he was proud of him for keeping his cool during the little shoving match with Wake Forest. I thought that was pretty cool stuff.
Oh by the way Guy, the Tianna photo's have been painfully rare recently !!

St. Johns blew out Longwood in that game. Dublin had 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 blocks as a non-starter. St Johns played subs a lot of minutes. Who knows who was in the game when he did his damage. Hard to judge.
I thought the Wake kid pushed Ibn. Thought they were getting chippie down the stretch. Was I wrong?
Very chippie game at the end--refs called nothing--although we got a break on the foul against their big trying to steal from DL while he was doing his Marques Haynes (sp) imitation with the game on the line.

In other words; "
Bill, The calls didn't go all their way. In fact the biggest call of the game was the attempted steal on Laury by their best player Devin Thomas. It was a foul for sure, but it could have been "missed". It wasn't and it fouled him out. And it was down the stretch"
for all the people who wanted dublin to play against wake, who would you have taken out? Ibn and hines played well off the bench, you aren't going to take out the big 3, and casmir and amayo played ok. we were quicker than wake and pushed the ball up court so i don't see where he fit in that game, he is a roll player that will play more certain games hopefully he doesn't fall out of favor like our last 5th yr transfer

1970,
When DL was in foul trouble and Hines jammed his finger, that would of been a perfect time to bring in Dublin. Dublin to me is a cross between Taaj and Poole. He seems reliable on the O end with interior buckets. It would have been a good test for him regarding board duties.

My apologies. I'll fix that.
