I had no intention to open up such a hornets nest...This problem is not new and has been going on for 70 years...It eased somewhat during the Valvano and Ruland playing days, but now has reverted to being as bad it ever was...
We are at some points only a stones throw from NYC, but have always been treated as a outcast by their press...To make it worst our local paper is now just a run off of US TODAY with a sport section that is sketchy at best...
As to the ''Win more and you will be noticed'' theory.....We are into our 5th year of winning basketball...We until this year have won 92 games in 4 years...In a matter of weeks the number will reach the hundred mark with most of the season yet to play...It would be hard to find a mid-major with that type record...The suggested theory goes up in flames with those Stats...
We are a interloper to NYC sports, even though at this time we are arguably the best team in its area, we have little chance of being recognized as such, even though as the season goes on their bias will become harder and harder to justify... Just a guess....We will be a minimum of a 15 point favorite against Delaware State...........

There just isn't crazy national interest in the mids from the casual fan. The mids will never get full attention because they don't have the money and fanbases the big 6 schools have. The mids only get the attention of the casual fan when they beat a big 6 school in The Dance. But make no mistake; Iona, Manhattan and Siena are all well-respected within basketball circles.

OT--You got the Daily News shaking: www.nydailynews.com/sports/college/iona-kate-avery-races-ncaa-crown-article-1.2020344 "After what happened last year, I came into the race thinking the best chance I had was to go as hard as I could as long as I could," Avery said in a telephone interview. "It turned out no one could stay with me."Iona has three individual NCAA championships now, all in track, and this is its first for a women's athlete

We were 23-4 before we beat Louisville at MSG and we hadn't received much press until then. So this is not a new story. LOL! you stole my post jerryI. Actually , the papers starting covering Iona when Ruland signed back in the late 70's and our schedule improved. Maac schools will only get press when they beat or upset bigger conference schools.

We're a good team. If English goes for 40 a night we'll be a story. We're 3-1 and lost to Wofford. If we won that game I think it would be a different deal. Let's beat Arkansas and then lets see about bias.
Personally I thought Amayo was going to be a bigger deal. We talk about the "Big 3". I really thought we would have a "Big 4".
It's all about getting the ball in to AJ and having him deliver. We'll lose on his off nights to good teams.

My hope is that we develop enough so that the team can win when others pick up the load. A little like my Cav's are right now, if Lebron has an off night, we lose. Can't sustain that over an entire season. Williams, Laury and Casimir right now look to have the ability to pick the team up when AJ is either off or is being double teamed.

Greg/ichoops, Amayo will also play a role as the rust continues to wear off. He was a spark at times and had a dramatic dunk in each game on the road this weekend. He was in the middle of the 9-2 run which closed out the half at NT and brought us back from 7 down. Needs confidence on the line.
BTW- we scored those 9 points in 74 seconds.

I could never even get Iona on the radio here on Long Island. Very little coverage in papers and on TV, even though they are one of the most enjoyable teams in the country to watch. Watching St. John's is like passing a gall stone. You guys have right to be angry. I think the problem is the small school in the big city thing. There is just not that much fan interest. It's a numbers game, its a ratings game. Pretty disappointing when you can't find there games anywhere.

St John's played Gonzaga in the PreNIT final at MSG--and only drew 5K. NYC area just doesn't care much about college hoops.

Guy to say that NYC is a pro town is stating the obvious. But I just feel that MSG and Barclays do a lousy job in promoting college BB. I guess it's possible that they just want their pro teams to be successful. But consider how bad the Knicks and Nets are............... .
