We have no evidence of Hines being able to score from any place on the floor, outside of random 3s spread across various games in a year and a half.

AJ would be wise to sit out next year and transfer to Louisville

Wow! Debbie Downers have chimed in with their observations, I mean opinions. News flash guys! It's Iona not Fordham or St. Johns. Reel in your expectations and enjoy the ride. It is college basketball!

What we "learned" by playing more guys: - Hines can't score at this level, no points and no assists in tons of playing time. Doesn't contribute enough to play at all. - Dublin is a bit of a liability on offense, looks good on defense and on the boards. Cluess is certainly frustrated by him. - Cluess is frustrated with Amayo as well and has very little patience for his one-on-one Dyckman moves. - Bebis isn't ready. Ellis can't sniff more than a possession. Disagree about Hines. Basically he was our "center" tonight. He can score from the perimeter. With Laury out we got our chance to see the bench and agree it was mostly bad. Hines showed he could shoot from 3 last year in the Northern Iowa game, I think he can do that he just lost his confidence right now, but he is not an inside player at all. Dublin is mediocre at best, you will get some minor contributions from him. Bebis- probably not ready yet for any significant minutes Robinson - scratched cornea and not sure his knee is healthy yet, do think he has potential Ellis- must of had a bad week of practice because he didn't get in, I think he can become a 3 point specialist off the bench, he has a very nice looking shot in practice, just needs to get his confidence in a game. Amayo- has regressed, right now a turnover machine, too much dribbling and trying to drive without openings. Needs to start playing within the flow of the offense. Ibn- is a nice point guard and a good defensive player who can hit an open shot- he is the one better than expected bench player who now will be a starter. Our remaining 4 players are 4 of the 10 best players in the league and will keep us as the favorite, but with an injury we will be in trouble. These 4 have to get 32+ minutes a game and yes come Maac tourney time that may be a problem, but you can see why Cluess is not playing the bench.

A lot of sweeping conclusions based on a 1 games sample for the bench players. If Hines had 15 points or Dublin had 12 rebounds would they be POY candidates? Time to get a grip and let things develop more. We need useful productive minutes from the bench, not new stars. If they get minutes on a consistent basis they will contribute enough to help the team."

Primary job of the bench is to hold the score where is, whether it' s a lead or a deficit. second is to bring energy when a team is faltering. They did both tonight. still allot of work to do, but I am encouraged. Hines will score, we will see more of Ellis and I think there is great potential for Amayo. Who knows with Robinson? Would be great if he can get worked in.

Pffft LOL, got news for you ICHoops. Most "great coaches" had "great players." Is Cluess infallible or John Wooden? No. Is he perfect? No. He's got his flaws like every coach. But the guy has a record of something like 95-40 since he's been here.

Generalizations or astute analysis? Stripes are stripes. 8 games this season for Dublin for our opinions, seems we can draw conclusions with that sample size. Although, I do feel he can contribute. 40 games for Hines, not even close to a small sample size. What we want him to be and what our eyes tell us, vastly different.

Cluess is an offensive genius ( except after timeouts), and although he has his faults he is as good of a chance of a long time successful coach as we will ever have.
My point on the bench is right now there is just a huge drop off from the top 4 to the next 4 so it's hard to take them out. I do think each of them can contribute but you are not replacing any of the top 4 without a huge drop off. Amayo does have big potential, but he has to sit back and let the game come to him. Right now he is hurting the team offensively when he comes in. End wee did you see last years Northern Iowa game, Hines had a big time game from the perimeter (19 points I believe) so he has done it before from outside.

Dublin goes in, beats up the opposing big man, gets a put back here and there, and throws some painful fouls on the other guy..that's what we expect from him and that's what he gave us..everybody has a role to play
