How many for adjusted offense? Sorry--I didn't mean for you to do all the work, I was asking more hypothetically.
But yeah, at least for defense, that really tells a story. And of course at least some of these teams will be up there for offensive efficiency too--that's why they're in the sweet 16!
A longer project would be to look at the teams that have gotten into the NCAAs from SMALLER conferences only, to see whether they were more offensive or defensive minded. There are a few low- to mid-majors known for the offense--VMI comes to mind--but you don't hear these teams making the Dance, other than Iona.

GuyF, ten (10) of the Sweet 16 are in the Top 10 for Pomeroy's Adjusted Offense www.kenpom.com/index.php?s=RankAdjOE . With all within the Top 50 with the exception of Louisville at #74. Iona is #40, Manhattan is #213 and Saint Peter's is #258.

Thanks for doing that digging. Not a surprise that several of these teams are on both lists as they are the best teams in the country.
Maybe if I get some down time I'll look up the usual suspects of mid- and low-majors that have somewhat consistently turned up in the Dance lately. I'm not counting the Wichitas and Gonzagas. I mean TRUE mid-majors.

I assume you will look at teams such as Davidson, VCU, Valpo, Dayton, Weber State, Ohio University, etc.

Curious: What's a "TRUE" mid-major in your mind? Dayton? VCU? or Hampton? Are you really looking at "LOW" mid-majors?
Most research projects begin with a hypothesis. What is it here?
So far, what's been demonstrated is that BCS schools and "HIGH" mid-majors advance in the tournament. "Low" mids are fortunate to get in and even more fortunate to win a game or 2. FCGU was a rarity; George Mason was an anomaly.

Iona and Manhattan, for starters. Steven F Austin, Murray St, Valpo. Gotta count Albany too. New Mex St. Oral Roberts has been in at least twice in recent years. Belmont. Certainly others I'm forgetting.
