Never imagined the minutes and production coming off injury. Very optimistic about MAAC Tournament. Need to find option to defend Pankey in post if we face Manhattan. Not good when they fed him. Thankfully they didn't do it more. Hopefully Isaiah can stay healthy and on floor.

Look at it this way. We won despite the rare poor offensive night from DL, who also had foul trouble (though his 11 rebounds were key). Hines had 2 quick fouls and was a non factor. Pankey padded his totals with a few dunks and a bunch of foul shots late, all when we essentially weren't guarding him. So long as Laury and Hines stay out of foul trouble, that won't happen again. AJ, IW and the rest of the guards won this game for us tonight.

Thankfully they didn't do it more. Hopefully Isaiah can stay healthy and on floor. They could only feed Pankey AFTER DL picked up his 4th foul. That is an Achilles Heel. A true strong big can not be covered by anyone other than DL.

While I agree with chelsea about Hines guarding Pankey, I feel that by not have him guarding AP contributed to one of the many turning points of the game. At 6:04, with both Hines and Laurey in the game, we had DL guarding AP, and you could see that Manhattan was trying to go inside. And that was when DL picked up his fourth personal on a three point play by AP. If we play the Jaspers a third time, I'm thinking that Steve Masiello institutes a strategy of going inside much earlier in the game.

Pankey is a slow starter, and the point is that we need Hines in the game early, and on Pankey, to help limit DL's exposure to fouls. In other words, we need those minutes from Hines (or possibly Dublin) to help protect DL from fouls. That is Hine's role, and if he gets 2 quick fouls he can't do it. We won without DL's normal offensive production. That's huge.

Remember, if we face Manhattan again, it will most likely be with Lawrence in the game. Another strong big body, another 5 fouls to give. Even more important that we get quality time from Hines, Dublin, and even Kristen if needed.

Even more important that we get quality time from Hines, Dublin, and even Kristen if needed. Exactly. This is about getting quality minutes from our other bigs to protect DL from fouls. Given Lawrence's erratic play, could be a toss up as to whether they are better without him. Their play is certainly more cohesive when he is on the bench. Supposedly he was suspended for a violation of team rules, for the second time this season.

Is Bebis hurt? He has appeared to move gingerly the last few games and a DNP last night. His length helps on D.

His erratic offensive game as of late coupled with IW back in action, may be the reason for not playing. His length at the perimeter on defense is helpful but I feel he may only be inserted for spinach minutes for the balance of the season.

What was the Lawrence deal? Gamesmanship by Masiello heading into the tourney?

IC I agree completely with the point about having DL on him with the 3 fouls. I also agree with 1983's points. We can also double AP and hope the Jaspers are off if we get into that situation.. Let's just hope DL is able to stay out of foul trouble and Pankey doesn't have the half of his life. Meanwhile the Gael machine continues to roll!

What was the Lawrence deal? Gamesmanship by Masiello heading into the tourney? I broached this in the chat room last evening (to the sound of crickets). Posted in another thread that it was disciplinary. If gamesmanship and he comes back as strong as he recently played against Marist, then it may be a genius move by Massielo.

I believe it was both disciplinary and gamesmanship. I thought it was odd the 3rd 6'10 guy they have only played about 13 mins. I see them going big in Albany to wear Iona down. Look how fresh IW legs looked. In contrast, Laury reminds me a lot of Glover at this time of the year...less explosiveness late in the season. This fact coupled with what I call AJ's dribbling slump makes Iona vulnerable. I find it odd how AJ often doesn't try to dribble out of a tough spot and seems to just hope to draw a foul in a stationary position. One of the most frustrating things I have ever seen. He has showed signs of this since the Draddy game last year and Massiello and other MAAC Coaches are fully aware.
