[I don't think our problem is the NCAA's. I think our problem is that we play a college game in a pro town/area. The media covers the biggest conference (BE), but even the BE doesn't get much coverage. Siena playing in TimButTo (Sp?) draws about the same as SJU, playing in NYC.[/quote]59 59........If Iona had magically been located for the past 4 plus years been in Albany with our record and style of play, we would have been the toast of eastern basketball and doubled the TUC attendance...Fans up there would have been jumping with joy and demanding national attention and our scheduling problems would be over..... There is little doubt that lack or press coverage, facilities and attention has deterred the notice deserved....... Delusional would be a lost word and reality would once again reign.....

Only fans who rely on traditional media have a foot in the grave. :-) BTW, this is the same argument as the ESPN3/MAAC Tourney argument. No question media consumption is going the way of blogs, social media, etc. In fact, it's already arrived in 99% of the cases. But there are still certain exceptions where it's a bit ahead of its time and traditional media should be prioritized ahead of it. One example is the MAAC Tourney. Would take regional broadcast TV rights over national online TV any day of the week for that event. Think the general argument of Iona needing traditional media coverage to capture the casual fan is also true to an extent. I noticed our game at Fairfield is on ESPN3 and SNY, I guess Fairfield pays SNY for this? I think it would be worth the money for the Maac to do the same for the tourney semis, not sure if this is possible but having it on locally would help exposure. The decrease in NY media attention on the Maac tourney has coincided with it no longer being on MSG. I do think the difficulty in finding Iona information to the casual fan has hurt attendance at home games. I personally know several guys who use to have casual interest in Iona but no longer have any idea how they are doing because they don't care enough to search for the info.

We are not far from ESPN3 being available from your main TV rather than a laptop. Hell, I have Google Chromecast; with a couple clicks I watch ESPN3 on my TV now via phone or tablet.

No one should care what the print media does. It's dying (sorry epatrick). Not sure why you are sorry, Guy. I have long switched to e-media for my news. And I don't include television in e-media. The problem with e-media is trust. Who do you trust in providing accurate, unbiased news? In fields that we are knowledgeable, it easy to figure out who to trust. It's the other areas where it gets murky.

My son is able to get the ESPN3 games thru the Xbox to the big screen tv. For the most part, the quality has been very good.

I use an HDMI cable to get icgaels.com and ESPN3 on my surround system, including Big TV. It's a simple plug-in shown to me by my 17 year old daughter's boyfriend. I think he figured that I would be distracted for a few hours. My wife thinks he's a nice young man. I remind her that he is an 18 year-old young man. He now ENJOYS watching Iona BB with me.

I don't watch SNY just because I have the channel. As a matter of fact, I watch ESPN3 infinitely more than SNY--and not just for college hoops.

The xbox is in my son's room, but now I'm just curious.

Yup, an HDMI cable from the laptop to the TV is all you need. I just got the Chromecast before the holidays and can use my phone, tablet or laptop to watch them wirelessly.

I haven't tried XBox but I prefer Chromecast over HDMI. You get a better stream to the screen. It's only $35. Later this year Sony and Sharp will have Androin TV in some of their sets. This will play WatchESPN directly.

I stream ESPN3 to my TV using a Roku box. Does Roku fetch directly from the site or does it get processed first by your pc, tablet or cell phone and then sent to Roku?

Slow death of newspapers as information medium described throughout the thread. Some mentioned Brennan's departure (he was a "fan") as an issue, but nobody remembered that the NY Daily News also fired Dick (Hoops)Weiss who had a broader audience than Sean.
Personally, I have been satisfied with HDMI hook-up to surround sound system--fits my needs.
