Tau, this isn't a Rutgers, Fordham, or Seton Hall situation. At least he has gotten them into two NCAA's and two NIT's. He should have done better with who he recruited, though. People aren't happy, and neither am I, but it could have been worse. But you can't pretend that you are in a different position then what you are. You can't force a good coach to come . They have to agree. If you were a good coach would you want to walk into that situation? No way! They should have just given him a short term extension, let him recruit, and then hire a good coach. Now everyone is leveraging their position, including Lavin himself. Cluess, for example, just got an extension through 2020. He is smart enough not to go into the Big East's double round robin schedule without any players. He's not stupid. I think this is what is happening, and I predicted it on Rumble in the Garden.

How could ASU be looking at Lavin? Is this a joke? They can get someone pretty good.

I'm amazed at the programs and fans that still champion the tired coaches and the programs they lead with no results...3-4 years is more then enough...Would they be that patient if it was the business they owned....I am unaware of any other endeavor that rewards poor performance time and time again to such a degree...Still they manage to hold on year after year and then find another program that will take a chance with failure that seems to fall into several years of complacency that is sure to follow.........
Aside...How many coaches does it take to coach 13 players...There now seems to be as many blue suits with notebooks as bench players........

What would a short term extension do? This is absurd I already said it will allow him to recruit more players to make the job more attractive. As it is now, we are in a hole. If you hire a new coach now, you will be locked into a contract with a subpar coach just because of the timing of the hire. Sampson might not come and Barnes-Thompkins might not either. So far we have the no. 38 class in the nation, with more possibly on the way. Let him finish his recruiting. That's the one thing he does well. Nobody wants the job as it stands now though. This is what is happening. But if a perspective coach sees talent on the roster he will be more inclined to come. Then you will get a better coach for the long term. That is all I' m saying.

One good thing about not making ncaa, I think due to that Cluess has little chance

Good call Tau. Cue speculation about Cluess. I think Cluess has already answered that question by signing his extension when he did, and not dragging it out for a few days to see if the other shoe drops. Personally, I think Cluess is very much about values, and we don't give him enough credit for that here. [Hey Coach, please don't have me eat my words.]
