Very smart move by Iona. Now I hope Cluess makes the necessary adjustments and take the team to the next level. Winning MAAC conf tourneys and an NCAA game.

Does anyone know when his current (before extension) contract was due to expire?

Does anyone know when his current (before extension) contract was due to expire? It was a one year extension, so 2019.

nick, thanks. I guess that I don't quite understand the significance, unless it has to do with automatic rollovers.

Great move by Iona, and I will repeat what I posted in another thread. Coach Cluess and staff is on the brink of elevating Iona basketball to a level unequaled in Iona history.

This is good ... nice to have TC for five more years.
I, also, think that it is a positive sign for the arena renovation.

Anyone see a report as to how much? Would like to know what he's making per season now.

Although money is probably most of the time the main reason in coaches decision, it is not always as many think the only factor...Satisfaction with lifestyle and family matters, love of home and surroundings, uprooting children schooling, friendships...Age can also enter into the equation...
If I was to venture a guess, it would be that in Coach Cluess case they may be the controlling factor and if so, it shows a maturity that is representative of his coaching ability...

Greg Thompson @gregthompson27 · 2m2 minutes ago Talked w/ #ICMBB's Cluess today: other schools told recruit he's trying to leave "I said I just signed a new contract so I'm gonna be here"

Assuming people are correct in saying that coach Cluess would not leave the tri-state area, and seeing how SJU and Fordham are locked up for the foreseeable future, the list of potential poachers is pretty limited. SHU, Rutgers, any others? Seems like we'll be able to retain coach for the long-run assuming the administration continues to make the necessary commitments to him as we keep winning.
