As of today there is one open scholarship, though I am in the group that believes one more might open. Just wondering what most think the staff should do with the one remaining scholarship if nobody else leaves. Hold it? Recruit a wing or another big? HS kid, Juco or 5th year senior? The commitment from Washington is obviously huge for next season. In my opinion I would like to see the final scholarship used for an athletic wing who can shoot. Need to look at the future as we lose IW and AJ after next season. I know Mitchell is part of the '16 class, but of the couple games I have seen of him, his skill set would not fill any perimeter shooting concerns. Mitchell actually can shoot well out to the three but on his high school team and AAU he was used inside, as they already had options on the perimeter. I see him playing in the paint as an undersized 4 for us when he arrives. I guess we need to see who is (or if) leaving before we can decide on where we use the scholarship. With that said, I would recommend using the one open scholarship be used for a combo forward who can fill IW's shoes. Someone who can can play the 2 thru 4 when needed. Good to hear Mitchell can step out to the three point line. Agree about him playing in the paint. the couple of games I saw he looked like a really tough kid. Strange to say about Iona recently, but if Amayo gets his waiver and is on the team, MAAC teams are going to come out of games bruised up against Iona with Washington, Amayo and Mitchell down low. Back to '15-'16 roster, have you heard anything about the recruiting of Marvin Prochet? I know he started the year injured, but came back late in the season. I cant find any reports on who is still recruiting him and he looked like a solid fit for Iona's style of play

Mitchell is not a 3-point shooter by any stretch of the imagination. I don't know percentages - but I would place him in the same category as Amayo as a 3-point shooter. He can definitely work on that at Prep - but his talents are on the boards and in the post.

86 great job as usual. Thought on Bebis? I think he should have a role Yeah.. Bebis showed signs of being able to shoot early on. He also was a good wingspan for his size and showed the desire to play D at the top of the key... I like the kid and would love to see him do well. He should be better adjusted to the speed of the game here and I would expect him to have developed by next season. The students at the games seem to love him. Ya I took a liking to Bebis also. He will get better and seems likes he lives it here. Kid will run through a wall for us. Keeper

Amayo needs a waiver? I thought he was definitely on the roster for next season.

He can definitely work on that at Prep - but his talents are on the boards and in the post. I have seen Mitchell play on probably two dozen occasions in both high school and AAU. He has a much better outside shot compared to Amayo. What Mitchell needs to work on is replacing a little baby fat with muscle and he needs to be motivated from start to finish in a game. Sometimes he seems disinterested early in a game and then just takes over late and puts up sick numbers. You can't pick your spots in Division 1 ball and he needs to hustle every minute. If he comes in here with some conditioning and a mean streak he will have a kick ass career.

Team is already one player deeper than last year with Bessick/Washington replacing Laury. Would love to see Amayo off the bench, giving him a chance to see the game flow. Amayo, McGill, Hines, Bebis, Ibn, Much, (and likely one other) --already a stronger bench than last season. Not if he doesn't play them.

Guy, have to disagree. If you can play, TC will play you. Now if he doesn't think you can play, well that's another story. Only guy I thought that should have had a lot more PT was Dublin. Bebis would have played more but he was injured. Muhammed seemed to regress as the year went on. Too many unforced errors. We only had about six guys that could perform effectively and when IW got hurt we were in big trouble. On paper we are in much better shape going into '15-16.

So far, what we have lost and what we have replaced them with: LostLaury - Stud player... unique skills and one of my favorites all time. I love this kid. Ellis- in the doghouse his whole career. Never seemed able to grasp what little defensive scheme we played. Dublin - Some nice moments... never got the shot I thought he would get. Najeal Young - disappeared before the season. ReplacementsMuch - I think you will find him a big improvement over Ellis. Much is reported to be a better overall shooter and much better defensively. Bessick - Athletic player who I would say has better tools than Dublin and has at least stayed longer than the two weeks that Young hung around for. Washington - A big who is a less flashy version of Laury. In AAU he spanked Top 50 Arizona/LSU player Craig Victor and dropped 25 points and 14 rebounds on Victor and he outplayed McDonalds All American and Top 20 player Kevon Looney (UCLA) in the same tournament. If anyone can fill David's shoes, it is Washington. He will also give us toughness down low that we have been missing. McGill - A true combo that can score and run the point. An upgrade over existing PG's and will be an important pier of the puzzle down the road. We still have at east one scholarship to fill. I would say that we have improved our depth significantly. McGill is a point guard upgrade over Casimer? Wow! Is this really true? I've heard Bessick is a pretty solid player as well. With Washington coming in now, Iona is going to continue it's domination of the MAAC standings.

I believe iona86 sees casimir as a 2 guard ...not a point guard

I believe iona86 sees casimir as a 2 guard ...not a point guard Correct... Casimir is really an undersized 2 that worked a great deal on his handle while at South Kent and split time at the PG with 4 star 2017 recruit Tremont Waters. McGill is a true combo who has had the ball in his hands since he was a little kid. He has run the point forever. He is not flashy... but I have seen him make people look stupid if they get cocky and try and challenge him. McGill is a good shooter... he can drop the three but he is not in Casimirs league as a three shooter. If Casimir keeps developing, he could be good enough to take over the point duties.

Check my Twitter feed, Iona offering a ton of guards. Draw your own conclusions.
