Iona has seven track stars participating in the NCAA East Prelims, starting tonight, led by Kate the Great. Just want to pass on my best wishes to them.

Both Rosie and Kate reach the NCAA finals, tonight in Oregon. Rosie's race is at 5:15 and Kate runs at 7:00. Times are ET and you can watch on ESPN2. Best of luck to both. Just making the finals is a great accomplishment.

Kate could have very easily finished second or third, as there were four runners bunched together. The winner, who was from Providence started her college career at Wisconsin, coached by Mick Byrne. And then she transferred to Mick's alma mater. The fact that we don't have a track probably hurt our chances to attract non XC runners. And I believe I was wrong about Rosie, as her time in the semi's was the eleventh best, and I guess only the top ten advanced. I was guessing since there was not a writeup on Rosie's race until late yesterday.

Rosie finished 8th in her heat - 2/10ths of a second behind the last qualifier. Both wild cards came from her heat. Finished in 4:18:46, faster than the 4th and 5th place finishers in the second heat.

Kate ran a fantastic race, finishing 4th in a loaded field. Winner really took off from the pack. Winner, Emily Sisson, graduated from Parkway Central High, which is about 2 miles from my house. Next door to me is Parkway West which has a track that most D1 colleges would envy. In years past, I shared that track with Jackie Joyner Kersee (Olympic Pentathlon Champ) and her hubby Bobbie Kersee as they coached world class professional sprinters. Talk about feet in concrete, compared to those people. By the way, Jackie had good things to say about Mick Byrne and Iona when Mick was still at Iona.
