The MAAC announced it has joined an officiating group that includes the Big 10 and the MAC among others. Hope this results in improved officiated. It has been so mixed even though the league tries to schedule it's games on light basketball days.

if we are working with these conferences on this, maybe it can lead to a MAAC vs MAC challenge and some BIG 10 games with the new relationships that will be made

Waiting to see how the officials holdup to being harassed by head coaches endless whining about calls against their teams. Two years ago they tried to tighten up enforcing the current rules, that lasted until December. Will be interesting to watch Coach Masiello adjust his defense if the points of emphasis are called consistently. I am expecting Coach Pitino and his coaching tree (including Masiello) to lead the assault on officials trying to intimidate and wear them down. Always loved an officiating crew that initially took abuse, then warned offending coach, followed by technical once he does not let up. As a group if the officials stick to their guns and make the calls the coaches and players will adjust to the new normal. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Masiello will stick with the "they can't call a foul on every play, so just keep fouling, approach". We'll have to see whether the officials have enough backbone to enforce the rules and open up the game. I'm not expecting any dramatic improvement.

I understand that, but if their are conference calls or discussions, you are networking new relationships that can lead to other things

It has been so mixed even though the league tries to schedule it's games on light basketball days. I imagine a "Consortium" of officials would level out the pay scale eliminating any differences. The result being it becomes just as attractive $ wise to ref a MAAC game as it would be with the other conferences involved. At least this is what I hope this might be.
