New format puts 1 and 2 seed quarterfinal games on FRIDAY, then off until Sunday. FAVORS Iona. No question about it. Favors shorter rotation and offense minded teams who are more at risk for off shooting nights.

Would prefer the extra day between semis and finals instead, but will take whatever we can get.

Would prefer the extra day between semis and finals instead, but will take whatever we can get. Totally agree. An improvement, but a break on Sunday allows both teams to fully recharge for the final.

Don't forget the fans. You can't ask fans to come on Friday for games, survive through Saturday and then just sit there until Monday night. Many won't do it.

Bravo on the change! Thank you to the MAAC for taking the time to critically evaluate how they could improve the tournament not just for the fans, but the member teams. Not sure if this change came from Commissioner Ensor or member school AD's, but I feel it is a step in the right direction to have the best teams playing at the end. My wish would be for the #1 and #2 seeds automatically qualified for the semis as a reward for the regular season conference grind. This change to the MAAC Tournament and the changes/emphasis regarding officiating will hopefully put the best product on view in the semis and finals. As I have repeatedly stated I do not like the clutch and grab style of defense favored by Manhattan in the past knowing that it is very effective in wearing teams out, especially after playing multiple days in a row with no rest/break. Hopefully other mid-major conferences will follow suit in an attempt to have their best team represent the conference in the NCAA Tournament.

This change is a step in the right direction. Now maybe Ensor will begin working to improve the conference's low profile. Start with something simple like a MAAC-CAA Challenge. They could even host it in Albany to take advantage of the hayseed attendance base.

ic1983 the idea of a MAAC-CAA Challenge is good, but I would think that it would be better to have the games played at the host school. Take advantage of home crowd and televise on ESPNU or ESPN3. Would love Iona vs Hofstra. The midmajors conferences need to work cooperatively together to get their better programs games against one another to help those teams and their conferences RPI's.

They released this earlier today with a bit of a change, 1 seed plays 8/9 on Friday and is off Saturday and 4 plays 5 on Friday with winner getting day off as well. 2 actually plays at 12 AM Saturday so they still play 3 straight days as do all others except 4/5. Also dreaded 9:30 game is back on Friday and Saturday.
Masiello is whining about this on Twitter. He knows he probably needs 3 games in 3 nights to beat the Gaels. He's going to have to try to do better in the regular season, which we know isn't his specialty.
Edit: See following post, this isn't right. 2 plays 9:30 game Friday.

We're supposed to be deeper this year, as the team was being built to enable it to play three games in three days at a high level. That is why I'm hoping we can get into a tourney, with a similar format.

Iona better secure a #1 or #2 seed to avoid the dreaded 3 games in 3 days, especially with a limited roster/bench. It will be difficult enough if Monmouth and Siena continue to play well. Praying for the full roster to be available for conference play.
