[I think this guy has overrated us, no matter where we fall. This guy? You mean OT?
Guy......You are certainly entitled to your opinion...That is what makes being a sports fan so much fun... My assessment is made not from Iona's association with the MAAC, but from their earned true value...What they have done the past 5 years is outstanding...The latest RPI has them at 55...In that vicinity is where I have been saying, and still say they will wind up...I am sure if they happen to wind up 2 or 3 places away from my guess, I will negatively hear about it Please clarify the use of 'This Guy'...Ctbill also uses it, but denies the suggestion that it is the Oldtimer...but the implication as we used to say, this guy ''Is a person of interest''... To change the subject a bit.....Oregon State is a nice addition to our schedule, but outside the west coast court advantage far from unbeatable...They have a RPI of 131, and troubling team stats...
OT, I can't speak for CTBill, but my use of the term "this guy" meant the guy who created this top 144 ranking, not you. And I don't think this guy knows a damn thing. I don't feel any different knowing this guy thinks we're a top 60 team than I would feel if he had us at 130. And I think I told this story earlier in that thread, but that's precisely what happened a couple years back. He had us at like 120 or something and I tweeted to him that we would finish a good 50 spots higher than that, and he responded with some snide remark about how I was being a homer or something. I am SOOOOO the wrong person to call a homer, as anyone knows. And let's just say that was one of those years Iona finished in the 60s. As for this year's squad, I can't deny I like the potential. I still think top 50 is pushing it, but I certainly won't say it's impossible. I also think if some of the new players don't pan out and we end up a 6-man team again, we'll definitely lose some games. And I asked that question of Masiello during the MAAC Roundtable for a reason. Love him or hate him, but in the last 3 years Manhattan has raised its game just in time for March, and Iona simply hasn't, with one exception (against a 6th seed in the finals). The guy is nuts but he knows how to use the regular season to find something that works, and fine tune it in March. And yes, as many have alluded to, he has had some luck--a guy like Kates starts nailing shots, for instance. But this is not a Manhattan thing--we have seen other teams find this "luck" against us way too often, with 3 losses in the finals and 1 in the semis. Something is amiss here, and I have not been able to put my finger on it. And this is why I have spent this summer doing 2 things: 1. Limiting my expectations, and 2. Saying that this is an absolutely HUGE year for Cluess and Grasso. They are the heavy favorites and at WORST are a lock for the top 100. They can't come up empty again. And don't think these March collapses haven't hurt the program. I know quite a few alums who think backwards re building a program--they refuse to donate a dime until they see us win an NCAA game. I've argued with them and have fought the battle, because such thinking is just outright silly in my mind. But I also understand it. This is a great program, but no one cares unless you do it on a grand stage, so that they will all come out of the woodwork and say "that's my college, and here's my check so I can see it again." I understand it. I don't agree with it, but I understand it. Iona needs to win, moreso when the calendar turns to March. The program can't afford another great season that nobody cares about.

I personally think these preseason rankings are a waste of time. Pure individual conjecture on how a team will perform. Do we ever see these same authors compare their preseason guess with post season results? I feel these preseason rankings just aggravate certain teams' fans when they feel slighted. Time to move on.

[We'll get a nice PAC10 RPI bounce all year if we beat them on the road.
Super A 55 RPI team (Iona) will not get much of a bounce (If any)when they beat a 131 RPI team even if it is on the road... RPI is a pretty fair system of evaluating teams...It does not take or use reputation as a factor but starts off each season with the previous year production... If Kentucky were to have a bad season and end up with a low RPI, that is where it will begin the new season...We after our 2-28 season ended up 6 teams from the bottom RPI and had to rebuild it...I can't find records to prove it but am willing to wager our jump of close to 300 RPI points in such a short period is a record... Of course teams with good reputation but happen to have a bad year will rise much more quickly if they improve rapidly as they will have to beat the higher rated teams... Clear? ??........

]Tiger, I'm not sure but Gonzaga MIGHT not have seats behind the basket.
IC59.... 59....From a photo I can find of McCarthy field house home of Gonzaga it appears they now have seating behind basket.. In my search I found that they have lost only 9 home games in past 8 years...We with good fortune may challenge that number in another 3 years...

Their dismal showing in NCAA tourney a detriment hard to overcome... Until I can get transport problems to practice solved, looking forward to poster reports, especially yours 59...

OT did pretty well with his pick but undid that effort by even suggesting Manhattan may still appear.

[ Clear? ??........
Oldtimer Nope-totally incorrect. ?
Super Super....Despite your liberal leanings I have always considered you to be one of our better posters...However....... A couple of days ago in answer to a post of mine giving my view and thoughts as to RPI ratings....You answered with the above simple comment...(Nope-totally incorrect...Super) I recognized immediately that it was a reply of anger and out of contrast to your usual demeanor, and decided to wait a while until you composed your self and gave some reason why I was ''Totally incorrect}. With none forthcoming I have concluded that you have little if any to base your negative posting... [Please try to keep in mind that I come from an age that one was free to express themselves and not controlled by the germ of Politcal correctness...

OT, I think Super was referring to your explanation of how RPI works. I will not claim expertise on this matter, but I think you may be in error re RPI. I know Sagarin employs past years' data, but I don't think RPI does.
