Guys, Like so many, I am truly disappointed with the results so far this season. I do believe, however, that staff and players have experienced an unbelievable series of misfortunes which help account for the disappointing record.
If we go back to pre-season discussions of this team and its players, the comments generally included: Starters: AJ, Sed, IW, JW, KA (granted some thought KA might be a 6th man or that AR might start)
We lose Sed (1st Team pre-season All-MAAC) & KA (arguably our energizer off the bench) for 15 games each--essentially for the entire season; AJ (pre-season MAAC POY)- 5 games, not including Tulsa where he played with a broken hand; JW -2 games for immaturity. In all, we lost 37 of a potential 95 starts. (I would argue more given the SED & KA situations)
Next up: TB, DM, Ibn, AR, RH
We lose DM, 3rd leading scorer for 3 games (he probably came back too soon) and RH for at least 8.
That's 48 games missed by top 10 players to date.
Throw-ins: McGill, Proctor-has started 5 and played 35 minutes in one game.
No Mention: BN, SW
Don't know many teams that could do well with 2 pre-season all MAAC players out together for 5 games with a total of 20 starts missed between them as well as missing another likely starter for the season.
We all want the team to play better D, etc., but the fact is our pre-season depth disappeared due to injuries and 3 of our top 6 players have been out for a considerable length of time.
I'll hold off on revised season projections until I see how they do on Friday. I'm expecting a confidence-building win.
Everything you posted is very true. I think the 6-0 conference start made us think we could withstand all of it. We can't.
injuries and kids quitting happen every year, does anyone have a breakdown for every team siena has had injuries the jaspers had 7 kids at the beginning of the year due to injuries and a kid quitting and i don't think anyone shed a tear for them i am sure every team has had issues
Ok, so despite everything we have done on the road this year, (2-8)?, we will put it all together and win three straight at siena in March? Makes sense.
You're right. Let's forfeit.
Forfeit? That's not how we play on the road, we earn our L's. Formula is simple, come out flat, play no defense, get our bigs in early foul trouble, miss many free throws, turn the ball over, don't bother rebounding, and most importantly make zero in-game adjustments. wash... rinse.... repeat...

HAT.......I guess that is the system we averaged over 24 wins a season the past 5 years............Back in the great depression days we had a saying to those that were never satisfied....
''You would cry even if you had a loaf of bread under each arm''
We are one of the countries better mid-majors...The odds considering all the disadvantages we have in moving up much further are not in our favor, but we are trying like hell.....

Hey 1970, how many teams lost 2 first team All MAAC players + another starter. Why don't you do the breakdown instead of posting generalities! Everybody has injuries-ours have been devastating.

Hey OT I agree with u 1000% about the past 5 years! Golden age, I usually go to 4 home games a year and watch religiously if they are on sny or espnu, but This year aint like the others. The way I see it, the problem (away from hynes) is either
#1) we just aren't that talented and we should be losing to ucsb and Fairfield etc.. or
#2) we have the players, but they are doing something wrong, and it needs and CAN be corrected. I am starting to believe #1 is the issue.

OK! But that is not what you said in the post above - "That's not how we play on the road, we earn our L's. No wonder that dog has such a forlorn look. [/quote][/p]
pissed off puppy! OK, I will give you all some optimism. Manhattan is god-awful on the road too.

What team lost 2 all maac players and another starter?
No doubt that the loss of CC and KA hurt, but even if they had played we still would have needed a PG. I know it's possible that CC could have been that guy, but we really don't know. But even w/o a real PG, we would have won about five more games, and maybe more.

Youve been beating this drum for a while. Who was our "real PG" last year? The year before?
The greatest poster in the history of the MAAC as determined by THREE separate polls.
Guy, jmo, but the reason we didn't WIN the MAAC last year or the year before was the lack of a real PG. And you're allowed to think differently, but for me PG is the most important position on the floor, especially in the MAAC. And I don't see a reason to change my opinion. What is your opinion about Iona's need for a PG?
