So much about sports is confidence. We have good players on this team. Of course they have to keep working to get better. But when they're confident, they share ball and attack and the shots keep falling.
Nice to be back home against an inferior team, overall the team did look better weak opponent or not.
And now my look awaited player evaluations - at least long awaited by me!
AJ-Great statistical game, making a much better effort on defense. Excellent passer. Biggest deficiency he has is dribbling and driving in a crowd against a strong defender, seems to me his long arms hurt him here. Barring injury he will end his career a 2000 point scorer and 2nd or 3rd all-time, but his college career will be judged on whether he gets to the tourney this year or not.
IW-Nice to see him hit his 3's. Still looks a step or so slower to me than last year. I think he is still not 100%, say 95%.
Casimir-Also making a better effort on D and when he gets going he is deadly from 3. Also barring injury will end up a 2,000 point scorer and in top 4 all-time. Don't understand why a 90% foul shooter doesn't shoot the technicals, but getting picky with Cluess here. His future should be as a point guard but I am just not sure that is him.
Much-played way more under control tonight. I went from hating his play despite the nice point totals to liking him a lot in just 1 night. He is Tre Bowman II. He is an awkward but deadly 3 point shooter. Only a sophomore he has a very bright future.
Washington-A poor man's Mike Glover (who was at the game tonight). He is a very important piece of this team. I think next year he will really shine. I would play him like he played Laury in 13/14, off the bench after the first TO to help avoid early foul trouble.
Roundtree- a Nice bench player, showed touch from the elbow tonight. He can help this team as a complimentary piece but possibly should start and Washington come in for him.
Bessick-Althletic and can block shots but awkward. Needs work but can provide depth up front, especially since Washington will often be in foul trouble. However not a 3 as some said he was.
IBN-Will be needed all year for leadership and ball handling minutes.A nice piece to provide depth for this team.
Proctor-Has a good shot and looks smart but won't get many minutes this year unless he hit a high percentage of 3's.
McGill-Haven't seen enough. Needs to impress in practice or in limited minutes or could end up getting recruited over. Probably has until next December to show he is part of the future.
BN and Westrop-Walk ons haven't seen enough
Amayo-Feel bad for this kid, just has a bad knee. His athleticism could help.
Hines-I think he can be a nice depth player in the front court, sort of like IBN in the back court, if he can just get healthy.
Team-They simply weren't ready for top competition to start the season. We will need the entire OOC to see what will become of this team. Team has potential but with the usual no better than Ok D, this team will be subject to bad performances if they are not hitting from 3 but at the same time this team should have the ability to knock off a top team if they are hitting 3's. They will have a few more chances but it may be too soon in the season, of course all that really matters is the end. At least it looks like Cluess is trying to develop a bench so they can win in March, but too me Clues still looks most comfortably playing only his best players and subbing in for them occasionally. The Key to this team may be the development of Washington. Have to have some sort of inside game to free up our shooters.

23 assists, 10 turn overs, much better at sharing the ball obviously. Defense still needs work. At times it looks like we do 90% of the work on D and then don't challenge the actual shot. Work in progress. Guys need to keep at it. Nice rest and can get healthy and organized for Fairfield.

I like what I see of Proctor a lot. There was a really smart play toward the end where a ball was deflected up high and he went up against a taller player. Instead of trying to catch it, he tipped it back to Bessick. Just a smart, reflexive play.
Couple of concerns, and I must say that Delaware is better than I thought they would be. First we have to get used to having sub-par refs work our games, as I think the level of officiating tonight will prove to be the rule rather than the exception. But as for our playing, here's what I came away with: *Defense has not improved, and it doesn't look like it will improve very much. *We are a great three point shooting team, but as they say, live by the three, die by the three. At home, I don't see us dying by the three. On the road, I'm not sure. *Jordan Washington does give us an inside presence, and he will only get better. The question might be whether we have a PG who can feed the post. I'd say the jury is still out, and I'm glad we have ten days off to work on a number of things. *Attack the rack.Deyshonnee and AJ have the ability to drive to the basket, and by doing so open it up for IW and CC on the perimeter. Didn't see much of it tonight, before the last 'quarter' of the game. It will help to get the opposition in foul trouble. *Also, don't know where Guy is coming from when he describes Taylor Bessick as a stiff. A better assessment would be that it will take a few more games to get the rust off, as he hasn't played for a year and a half. But he is talented, and the most athletic guy on the team. *AR-I think what we saw tonight is what we'll get. A glue guy, who doesn't do anything great, but everything well. I didn't see much on the defensive end tonight, but that might have been my fault as I was concentrating on the offensive end. *IW and CC were okay offensively but seemed to have an off night, defensively. That's a feeling I came away with. *AJ hit his first three 3Pt shots and then missed his next seven, but they were good misses, with some of the in and out variety.
Bottom line, we weren't great, but are moving in the right direction.
Patience. One, two or three games do not make a season. Good first step in moving in positive direction. They needed to find their confidence through playing their game. Hopefully they continue process against Fairfield. In mean time they need to find ways to adjust against teams that force them into half court all game. They need high energy all the time, no slack. Hopefully AJ and Isaiah provide leadership. Really liked Jordsn's efforts. Tonight enjoy the victory.
Welcome back, Iona Gaels basketball - over 90 points scored, 5 players in double figures, lots of passing, including several behind-the-back variety and a great alley-oop for a Bessick dunk late in the game. Team shot close to 51% for the game and 47% from 3 point land, although team D allowed Delaware to shoot 50% also. Although I was worried about Much after the Valpo game, he is playing under control and sharing the ball better and I look forward to more progress from him this season. Bessick is playing a bit reckless, picking up fouls and once again seems not able to handle passes at him well. Washington seemed headed for a double-double but then got into foul trouble. Nice to see CED, IW and AJ hitting threes. Nice bounceback game and it should help some posters on this board get off the ledge, or at least calm down a bit. Also nice that TC emptied the bench again and gave the freshmen and walk-ons some playing time.
Let's start a pattern. Let's beat every team we're better than..Let's find a way to beat one or two teams that are better than us..Let's shoot out of our minds and win one or two in the NCAA 's.

Great assessment. I was at the game and feel the same way about Much and Washington. Much passed the ball and brought a lot of energy. Hit his shots too, though the mechanics on his shot is bizarre. He turned me from a detractor into a fan. Washington plays with passion and plays D, something we need badly. He missed some shots inside and fouled a lot, but once he settles in he will be a big part of this team. Rountree surprised with his offense, and that jumper at the elbow could be very useful. He should dribble less though. Bessick has no offensive game to speak of but played much better D in the second half. Ball movement much better. Leaving the other team open to shoot still a big problem. Overall major improvement for the team tonight.
Big night for the business school. Very well done ceremony before the game to announce LaPenta's $15MM gift. Great news and great generosity by LaPenta.
Bessick is being used down low in a way that does not match his current skill sets. It will take some time for him to get used to the flow and his role. He would be used better if he was left to roam the baseline like glover did looking for alley oops. He looks a lot stronger and tougher than I remember him being when he arrived here. Give him some time...by league play he will be a very valuable piece IMHO.
Guy and 86, you both make a good point about TB, and that is to wait on him. January seems reasonable. However, even now I like his athleticism and his shooting ability. I agree he's no where near as physical as JW, but few are. I'm glad we have him and am looking forward to watching him improve, as he's being changed (from his James Madison days) to a low post player.

I think we'll see more scoring from down low as the season progresses as players learn to penetrate off that perimeter weave they run instead of hoisting it from behind the arc.
Ibn made a real nice penetration move into the lane, but made a poor dish resulting in a turnover.
My guess is they're coached to take the open shot off the perimeter weave as their primary option, going inside is a secondary option.

I think he needs to work on his hands down low. In the first three games he has had passes bang off his hands like they are made of cement. With that said, down low passes are whizzed at you from three feet away which is different from being on the perimeter and getting a pass from 15 feet away. He needs to develop softer hands and he might need to adjust by receiving the ball closer to his body as he currently seems to try and catch with just his fingertips away from the body. Some people are born with soft hands... some need to develop them.... some never seem to develop them. They are essential for a good post player. He has very good hops and gets up quickly... lets use that to our advantage while the rest of his game develops and he gets further accustomed to the system.
Our guards need to work on getting the ball down low as well and need to develop a groove with our bigs. Optimus Prime had Machado feeding him, if we can feed our bigs consistently I think it will change the dynamics of the team.
