JucoRecruiting.com Seward CC transfer Marco Morency (6’4, G) has signed w/ Palm Beach State
Morency (2020) averaged 15.3 PPG & 5.5 RPG this past season. He was named Jayhawk-West Rookie of the Year & MVP of the Region VI Tournament @palmbeachmbb
Is this former MV player a serious target for 2020? Verbal Commits shows we recruited him out of HS...
Same kid. He stopped playing hoops for at least a year maybe even 2. He was touted as the next big thing at MV, played high level AAU, and then quit. Seems like he grew up and played his ass off this year. Good for him. Haven’t heard us attached to him this go round, but wouldn’t be shocked.
Matt Zona - 6'9" PF out of Bergen Catholic and NY Rens AAU. Raised in Blauvelt, NY. Rated 3 stars by Rivals. College ready frame, very strong and has very good timing defensively. Tough on the boards, Pretty good feet and uses his body well scoring after making contact. Can post up or drop the jumper out to the three. High hoops IQ. Was a first-team All-Bergen County selection this past season. Offers from Bryant, Harvard, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Hofstra, RMU, Hofstra, GWU, UPENN, Brown, Yale, St. Joe's, Lehigh, Davidson, Richmond, Rice and Duquesne. Looks from SJU.
"Zona was a standout at the camp a year ago and nothing really changed in a year except he’s gotten bigger and stronger in that time. A skilled shooter with range to the arc he has expanded his game to be effective at the rim as well. He could always rebound with the best of them but as a guy who could light it up from downtown he tended to play on the perimeter more but this year while he got his share of jumpers he was a more than willing participant in the paint. He defends well inside and he can run the floor on the break looking for the oop pass to slam home. With two more years of HS ball ahead of him I suspect that his skill set will get even better as he already is on the mid-major radar with most hoping to snag him before the big boys find out about him though Rutgers has offered." - Chick Gillispie -Jun 27, 2018, phenomhoopreport.com, St. Joseph’s University Commuter Team Camp
"A powerful and ultra-efficient big man, Zona dominated the paint while playing up against older competition. He controlled the offensive glass, finished everything around the rim, and showed an element of budding skill." NERR - #S16 All-Tournament Team- 2nd Team Report
"At 6-foot-8, Zona showed good spurts of offense during his time at LIVE in AC. He has patience inside the paint, which allowed him to easily score. Zona also did a great job of blocking and contesting shots at the rim." - Julius Kim, Elevate Hoops, July Scouting Report 2020 class
"I was blown away by the Sunday performance of the 6'9" post, who not only is a big body, but a highly skilled prospect. He was really feeling it from the perimeter in the morning game that I watched, but also had no qualms about getting his hands dirty and playing physical basketball in the post. Rutgers became his first high-major offer a few weeks back, and I'd be shocked if he doesn't pick up several more in July. Because of his outstanding play in the Peach Jam, our chances of landing RJ Davis (Stepinac) have gone from a long shot to a very long shot. I imagine our coaches are in attendance.
Reece Brown - 6'8" PF - Plays for City Rocks AAU - Offers from Columbia, Brown, Yale, NJIT, Ohio, BU, Vermont, Stony Brook, Siena, Rutgers, SLU, UMASS, Richmond, RMU and Delaware. Was hearing from Kansas State but that seemed to dry up after Chester Frazier left Kansas State for Virginia Tech. Looks from Temple and Marquette.
His sister plays for Columbia and his father is former Notre Dame star, Derek Brown. Derek was a first team All American, 1988 national champion (played in the famous Convicts vs Catholics game against Miami) and was a first round draft pick of the Giants. He payed tight end in the NFL for nine seasons, including stints with the Giants, Jaguars, Raiders and Cardinal.
Scouting Report:
"Aside from his new offer, Brown showcased his athleticism throughout the weekend. He made some explosive plays in the open floor and was above the rim like few others. Off the court, he also made it clear that while he picked up a high-major offer earlier this spring, he's open to all suitors and levels of division I recruitment. "- NEPSAC Showcase Standouts - NERR 06/24/19
"A high level athlete who has made significant strides since last year, Brown continues to expand his skill set and get more aggressive. As he continues to develop, and adds efficiency to that mix, his game will make yet another significant jump." 10 Fall Stock-Risers in 2020 NERR October 26th, 2018
Wow..not one post in almost 2 months in this thread, with 6 open scholarships for this class. Reece Brown has received higher level offers, so he's out of the picture. Amazing how Iona info is kept so quiet. Not a knock, but at least with Grasso and Eaton some stuff managed to get out about recruits visiting Iona or offers being made. Verbal commits lists Iona with 19 open offers for the '20 class, but most of those kids have now received higher offers and are probably off the table.
Right after my post there's a report on Twitter that new assistant coach Mailhot is already on the recruiting trail. Was at Polk college yesterday.

Agree, rather quiet on the recruiting front. Very little being reported online, though I'm sure the staff is out and about. Sharkey or I86, hearing/seeing anything of note?
