Every year the same topic comes up...There are people, especially those in their later 50s that are perfectfully happy with their lifestyle and have no desire to disrupt it... IMO Cluess is one of them...With the the record, reputation and the type ball his teams plays, he would have been gone a few years ago...The mere fact that dispite the stories he is thinking about leaving IONA, they have so far proved baseless, and all signs especially recruiting affirm that... With the hiring of 'worn out and never were coaches' year after year, why else has Cluess remained? The fact that he has not been sort out and offered much higher contracts could be that the word is out that he is happy and satisfied with his present lifestyle... We should thank the Basketball Gods for the fortune of Cluess and the spotless program and envious record he has brought our way...

He deserves his own program, but has a sweet gig at iona and is next in line for the HC position once Tim retires. Where are you thinking he's going to go? Probably makes more money as an assistant than most HCs in the NEC.

I am very new to this message board, but i do follow Iona basketball . If Coach Grasso leaves Iona there goes recruiting and the players that Iona is use to getting. You can be the best Coach in the world if you don't have players then you don't win. Every year Grasso brings in players that shouldn't be at iona thats why the league hates him ...

Some rumors out there of A St Johns assistant coach(known to be a recruiter) might be moving on. If that should be the case, I'd be worried

Probably will be an unpopular statement around here, but no way you can watch SHU and objectively say that they’re not well coached. Willard has had the team playing very good basketball for the past few seasons, and they are clearly a well coached team who plays with great energy.

Kevin “ 0 for the maac tourney” Willard, yeah he has gotten better as a coach but they always are streaky. I wonder if he remembers he coached at Iona? Someone should ask him if they can get close enough to avoid the rays omitting from his bald head.

I met him once at Backyard Pub in New Rochelle and played a round of darts with him. Was a pretty nice guy in my opinion.

He’s a pretty good coach but not yet a very good coach. Every year his teams go on late year funks, losing like 5 out of 6. He hasn’t done that well in the ncaa or nit either despite having winnable games.

He hasn’t done that well in the ncaa or nit either despite having winnable games. He’s had three consecutive 20+ win seasons in the Big East and is 1-3 in the NCAAs. I don’t believe this has happened at SHU since the PJ days, if it ever happened at all.

I’ve watched Villanova a lot and they are decent but not great team. I would say about the 25th to 30th best team in the country. Seton hall Is a bubble team, about the 50th best team in the country. Seton hall should beat them at home on senior day, just like st. Chicken should of won at msg. People make a big deal about beating nova just because they are defending champs. Nothing extra special about that win today, it shouldn’t lock up an ncaa bid but I’m sure it did, you get so many chance at so called “good wins” when you are in a major.
