Rahsool Diggins- 6'1" PG out of Archbishop Wood (PA) and Wayne NJ (he transferred from DePaul Catholic) - Averaged 19.2 points per game last season. Was a First Team 5A All State and First team All-Catholic League (Philly) selection this year. Offers from Quinny, LaSalle, Siena, Hofstra, Denver and Bryant. Interest from Temple, GWU and Virginia.
"The 6-foot-1 floor general has the kind of flair, poise, and toughness that college coaches crave, and Diggins could become the next in a long line of outstanding point guards to come out of the city of Philadelphia. In addition to his ball-handling ability, Diggins has improved as a shooter and is working to become more of a vocal leader. Although his frame may be a bit slimmer than he would like, the young lead guard has proved capable of knocking down shots in the lane, in addition to being a crafty finisher at the rim." - Ty Freeman, Prep Insiders
"Having gotten plenty of seasoning last year as Wood’s starting PG Diggins is ready to take the next step in his progression and his play here in the one game I saw shows me he’s on his way. He was brilliant handling the ball in the open court or vs. pressure and his passing game was on target as he had by my count 6asts. He was penetrating the lane and drawing defenders away from cutters and while not every pass resulted in a basket he connected on at least 7 or 8 of them plus he had one beauty of a ¾ court bullet that was perfectly placed over a defender's outstretched hand for a fastbreak layup. He can however sometimes force the issue which can lead to silly turnovers but as he matures into his role I suspect he’ll cut down on these miscues. His shot is becoming more effective and reliable and he showed that in this contest by hitting a left-wing pull up on the move and an off the right corner trey with a hand in his face. He also got to the basket with some nifty moves including one where he froze his man with a ball fake and went in for the basket plus one. On the defensive end he has quick hands that allow him to get some strip steals and a quick burst to get him to the hoop for an easy score. Shortly he’ll be starting preparations for year two as a starter with more expectations placed on his shoulders and we’ll see how he shoulders the new responsibilities."- Chick Gillispie, Hoop Group FAA camp Aug 19, 2018

Jaylen Stinson - 5'11" PG from Archbishop Wood. 2nd Team All-Catholic League (Philly) selection. Averaged 14.9 ppg this past season. Offers from Stony Brook, Binghamton, Mississippi Valley State and Siena.
"Jaylen's commitment to man-to-man, on-ball defense, is truly spectacular. For much of the game, it appeared that Stinson and Smith were “slow dragging” in a $1.00 basement party. Still, Smith never forced anything and showed great patience throughout the hard-fought contest." - The Black Cager, December 19, 2018
Solid performances from the point guard position, ability to get teammates the ball in scoring position. Relentless on the ball defender. Pull up jumper deadly when seen. - Prep Scene

Do we ever land these kids we offer 3 and 4 years away?
Seems like we're frequently involved early on with these kids and by the time they're in 11th grade the high majors are all over them.
Don't get me wrong, I like the fact we're aiming high.
Just reading about these kids far out on the horizon and trying to remember a commitment we received from someone we've offered 2+ years away.
Frankly, I'm having a hard time thinking of a commit we were aware of 1+ year before he committed. Seems like everyone we get comes out of nowhere.
Probably my memory fading. Enlighten me if you can.

When we go after 4 star kids, I would assume that it is to build a relationship if they decide they want to transfer back to the NYC area. I am sure offering Isaiah Washington and establishing a relationship helped us land him the 2nd time around.

CJB, pretty sure you're correct. Burtt Sr., Springer Sr., and Simmonds were early commits, as I remember, but that's a long time ago.

I think the secrecy surrounding recruiting and life as a mid-major are also big contributors - this isn't unique to Iona.

Philadelphia recruits ... seems like there are so many now. Which assistant coach has ties there? Not saying it's a bad thing.

Luke Brown - 6'1" PG out of Blackford High School in Indiana. He is averaging 35.8 ppg this season, leading all Indiana high school players. He has a decent handle, is a great passser... in fact he is an elite passer and he has put up huge numbers while being double teamed and Box and 1 Defense most games. His performacnces actually overwhelmed the scoreboard. The schools scoreboard was wireless but somany people were coming to see and record this kids play that they had bandwith issues as everyone was using their cell phones taking pictures and video and posting to social media that the scorebord was not registering commands from the control board. He packs the local gym every game as the folks come from Indianapolis to see him play. The school has a positive cash flow of over $5K every home game due the attention this kid is drawing. This kid has some Maravich in him. I think the BCS level schools think he does not have the handle and size to play the PG or Sg spots. While he is an elite scorer they are questioning his ability to defend against 6'5" PG's , so, they are waiting to see his develipment and physical maturity before they offer. Bottom like is this kid can score from anywhere and has one of the best court vision capabilities I can remember. Luke played just 15 games after suffering a stress injury near his right ankle last season but was reported to have put the time to good use lifting weights and shooting. Coach Ricky Johns is his recruiter. He would be fun to watch. We are his first offer but he has interest from Purdue, a game: you guys will absolutely love this kid if pitino honors the offer and you can convince him to come ...I’ve watched every game he’s played since coming to Blackford and I’ve had the pleasure of watching many very successful players in or near central Indiana. He is unique.
