1. I didn't start the thread. Our good luck charm '05 did 2. I've been commenting throughout the tournament and we did just fine. 3. YOU are the one who said it was nearly impossible to win this coming out of the losers bracket (Well'70 did, but you agreed.) 4.

I wish Pat Carey all the best and future sucess, BUT....
He has a lot to make up for the last 12 years of the absolutly dismal baseball performance he has led IONA...The won and lost record was by far the worst for that period then any other MAAC team, and possibly the nation...
I am not quite ready for his rave reviews... I remember well being one of the no more then a half dozen Iona fans sitting in the stands both at Salesion and City Park shaking my head at the street level performance...
I am not a ''Fair weather'' fan and will never be one and will call them as I see them....For the past 12 years in language past and no longer allowed...''They Stunk''

What is going on with the Iona baseball team? We are 0-19 and have been outscored 250-35. Far cry from competing for an NCAA berth less than 5 years ago.

Don't understand the decision to hire this coach, but then again they have been underperforming and probably limited candidates. Only way to jumpstart the program is going the JUCO route. Get 2nd tier talent from top baseball states.

Way to start is simple - Go JUCO Route right away and get pitching. Use most of the scholarship money on pitching. Use remaining scholarships on athletes and recruit athletes (middle of diamond recruiting - Catcher, Middle Infield and Center Fielders). Baseball tends to have students with higher GPA's which allows schools to allocate scholarship money with academic money. Need to find a good mix, but the one thing that the east coast has is a ton of athletes. Use that to your advantage and go out and get talent in Florida, Texas and California.

Also, coaching staff needs a big upgrade. Players come in to be developed. None of these coaches were at programs that these kids would know let alone look to learn any valuable lessons from. Need to open the pool and get coaching talent. Tons of ex-players out there from big programs in the area looking for jobs and experience.

Are they using Concordia's field yet? I pass by it periodically and it doesn't look like anything is upgraded or re-branded.

Unfortunately, our "OT" was commiserating about this in an earlier post in 2017. Much harder to turn around a baseball program than a basketball program. Baseball requires fewer $$ in the athletic budget than most sports, so cutting the program yields very little budgetary relief. Yet, baseball would be a budget drag if we switched conferences which require additional travel.

Yet, baseball would be a budget drag if we switched conferences which require additional travel. I actually believe the opposite about the baseball program. It is harder to rebuild it in the Northeast, but it is possible. We will never get to a St. John's or Rutgers status, but we can form a competitive team. However, it looks like the school has kind of given up on the program in all honesty. I wouldn't be surprised if they do cut the baseball team in the next couple of years. Zoccolillo was the coach for a while and although the teams were middle of the pack, they had a bunch of players drafted. If we can get back to that status, I think the baseball team can turn it around.
