Yakima Ellison picks Iona over St. Johns. I expect she will try to walk on.

Yakima Ellison picks Iona over St. Johns. You do realize that the recruit is not Yakima Ellison?

When it rains it pours. After going so long with no recruiting news about the Men's or Women's team, we hear about Ben Perez. Now, on the official Iona site there is an article on the Women's team's recruiting efforts. Four new signees to go along with the two recruits announced in the Fall. An exciting day for Gael basketball.

I don't know if anyone has read the release about the four recruits, and it's hard to know how good they are, but diversity wise, they are off the charts. I'll need help with even pronouncing their names, correctly. One girl from Spain and one from the Czech Republic. The girl from the Czech Republic, specializes in three on three BB (whatever that is) and has been ranked as #1 player (3 on 3) in the world. Also, she appeared on the cover of Esquire magazine. And try pronouncing Krumpholvoca. Really looking forward to seeing her play. Even the two Americans, Shyan Mwai (MA) and Morgan Rachu (WI) have unusual names. Also, wondering if Juana Camillon (Spain) has any of the moves made famous by Marina Lizerazu. Throw in Paula Weeks (Canada) and Gabby Joseph, from nearby CT, and maybe Yakima Ellison, well that is a brand new roster. Exciting ?? Maybe. Hopefully, we'll be able to catch a glimpse, this summer.

Is it a coincidence that both players transferred to the same school or is there a logical explanation as to how it happened. Seems odd unless again there is an explanation. Just curious...

Now I'm curious as to what went on last season (besides just the losing) that is causing all this upheaval. Sounds like something deeper must be going on. That's three transfers all of whom logged major minutes. Anybody have any idea?

greg, to be honest, I don't think that we'll regret losing Okey-Williams, as I didn't see her as someone that would help turn the team around. Not so Clay who was a glue type player, and a major contributor. Clay is from Tuscon, which is much closer to Eastern New Mexico. And while I forget where Okey-Williams is from, I'm guessing the South West. As for last year's team, someone close to the team (a fan) told me that Alexis Lewis , "threw in the towel" early on, and didn't have a VG year, which affected the whole team. But, imo, the big problem was poor PG play, which, after the Lizerazu years, really affected the team.
P.S. A recruit, which I thought we would get, Avery LaBarbera (Pat Vacarro's granddaughter) was named to NYS 1st team Class A. Unfortunately, she's going to Canisius.

Jayden is a big loss. According to the Bakersfield press release, she led all MAAC frosh with 6.1 rebounds per game. The Lady Gaels are starting from scratch. Good luck to them.

jb, while I agree, I think this season ('18-19) will be very important for Coach Godsey to keep her job. The team has to show improvement and stability.
