I learned last night that Al Yorio passed away on Sunday, September 23rd. He has had a long battle with COPD, and it was that disease that ultimately killed him. He will be waked on Thursday at the Edwards-Doodle Funeral Home, 64 Ashford Ave., Dobbs Ferry, NY. The hours are 2-4 and 7-9, and the funeral will be private. Al was instrumental in getting the Goal Club, "off the ground". He was a lawyer and wrote the original by-laws for the GC, when it was an independent organization. Before being confined to his home, Al was a long time BB season ticket holder, going back to the Valvano era. I will miss him.

Al was a classmate and friend. His wife Noelle predeceased Al and it broke his heart. He was a Gael through and through. I will also miss him.

Just found this thread yesterday. I first met Al back in 1977-78 at a Newspaper stand at the corner of Martine Ave and Court St in White Plains. He was talking Iona Basketball and we got into a conversation. From that day on, when ever we ran into each other I would get his inside view and a heads up as to events I could attend or practices that were open and recruits to check out. He introduced me to friends and was instrumental in making me a lifetime Iona fan. I moved to the west coast 22 years ago but I always considered him a friend and thankful that I knew him. He will be missed.
