Paranoid? Never mentioned the staff, anyway I repeat,I’ve forgotten more than you’ll ever know, can’t keep going g back and forth with you,and no one cares what you would be “a littledisappointed at”. Means nothing.
Ok Uncle81..keep on posting your inside info recruiting scoops..hopefully you will get one right. Lol
Ok, boys, time to go to your respective corners. We welcome all attempts at bringing info to the fans.
I know you get it Guy! As you know it’s frustrating not naming players we are recruiting or bringing in,Ive never mentioned a player by name for reasons you are aware of but I try to let people know good things are happening, unfortunately many don’t understand this, most names mentioned here never materialize,I shouldn’t let others who have no clue bother me but I do,I’ll back off and enjoy the ride to the tourney again!!!

Well none of us should let others who have no clue bother us. It’s a basketball message board and 99% of the posters here will freely admit they don’t have inside information and are guessing, speculating, trying to read the tea leaves. If the criterion for posting here is that you know intimately what’s going on with the program, maybe two guys would have a nice back and forth and I have no idea who those two would be.

Was told late last night Still granted medical redshirt!! It had to be kept quiet due to NCAA sanctions, this is reason he hadn’t been on bench,he will have 1.5 years left,he can begin play after the OOC schedule ends.
In the Ruland era, I knew everything. Who we offered (and didn't), the real story behind commits, and which players were in the midst of their periods. If something didnt work during a game, I knew why.
Honestly, it's a blessing and a curse.
For whatever reason, I made no personal connections with this staff over the years. Indeed, I still correspond more with our departed women's staff at Seton Hall than I do with our current men's staff. So, I just sit back and enjoy this ride, and of course over time it has been easier to trust the Cluess process. For all the doubts we've had this season, we are right in the MAAC mix again. Wash, rinse, repeat.
I know a few things as fact, though: 1. Iona staff and admins read this board. 2. Some posters out here have good access to info, in varying forms, for varying reasons. 3. Everyone out here thinks they know and understand the game, either because they played as younger men, coached at varyint levels or simply because they've watched basketball for 50 years.
So, often we will bicker, while the coaches whose shoes we fill from behind our keyboards likely laugh their butts off about how little we all know. I know that many out here don't care about that, because even the coaches know we all just want what's best from the program, and many out here even back it up by giving significantly to the Goal Club.
So, if you've got info, share it. If you've got money, donate it. If you have neither, share your opinion and enjoy the ride. Gael Nation needs us all.
The greatest poster in the history of the MAAC as determined by THREE separate polls.

Well said! At the end of the day we are all here because we love Iona basketball.
And to a slightly lesser degree.. living on the Ledge!

Great post. Honestly I don’t know why the Coaching staff would read this board and if they do and have a good chuckle good for them. I feel the same way when I hear or read people with zero training discussing the areas of law that I practice. Like they say, opinions are like assholes - everybody has one. Of course we wouldn’t be here offering our untrained opinions if we didn’t care about the program. And my guess is that apart from the people registered for this board, there probably aren’t many more people who care about the program. When we stop offering our dumb opinions, it will be less amusing for some, and perhaps a sign that the program is dead.

Bill-The internet (Google, etc.) has made everyone instant experts about every profession, industry, and service.
As Dirty Harry said... “A man's got to know his limitations.” Many times, on this board I have stated, after giving my opinion, that there is a reason that Cluess gets paid to coach and I don't.
This conversation reminds me of a very hard-headed buddy of mine who loved to kickback a couple of drinks and tell the local owner of a tavern he frequented how she was doing everything all wrong and how wildly successful she would be if she would just incorporate a few of his ideas. She had successfully run a popular place for over 30 years and basically grew up in the restaurant business, so she just smiled and ignored him. Well, he finally decided his ideas were too great to not show the world and he decided to open a bar in a venue that the owner of the tavern had also owned in the past (of course she built it up and sold it for a profit to someone who ran it into the ground) and he implemented all of his ideas. The only experience he had in bars was working as a bouncer back in the 80's and his time spent sitting on a barstool having some drinks.
Within eighteen months he lost his bar, the property the bar was located on, his wife of 20 years, the family home and caused his kids a lot of pain. Sometimes things look much easier from the outside than they really are.

Couldn't agree more Super. If you get a chance read Tom Nichols book "The Death of Expertise." When it comes to sports in particular though, untrained and inexperienced fans have a long history or pastime of offering opinions about players, coaches, games, etc. In bars, at parties, while watching games, etc. 99% didn't play the sport or coach it at a high level, or have "inside knowledge" of what is/was going on with a particular player or team. Its a tradition with sports fans. That level of passion and interest is one reason why players and coaches are so highly compensated. If that ever dries up, and boards like this disappear, Coaches like Cluess (who I like a great deal btw - as much as someone who doesn't personally know him can) will no longer be the highest paid employee at the University.
CTBill--imagine a message board for lawyers, watching you while you work. "Why the F would he make that argument??? Idiot."
Yep I get it. It would be hard not to chuckle sometimes. And perhaps the most annoying posters would be those that say I have inside info as to why he made that argument, but I can’t share it. Which is about as useful to readers of a message board as a snowball is to an Eskimo.
