Following up on this for Z (and the rest of you who are bored).
With me traveling and not attending the MAAC Tournament, I indeed planned accordingly, to wear "the sweatshirt" for our games.
For Friday's game with SPC, I was mostly in the car, following on live stats and wearing the sweatshirt. Things generally were OK, and as I pulled into the hotel parking lot, Iona was building its late lead. By the time I had checked in and headed to our room, Iona was up comfortably very late.
We enter our hotel room and it's stifling hot. I mean, someone jacked that thing up and just shut the door. Despite the heat, my first instinct was to get my laptop out so I can watch the final couple minutes. As the laptop's firing up, I ditch the sweatshirt. We have a decent lead, very late. I'm watching as Turner single-handedly makes things interesting, and in pain I continue to see the lead shorten and the Iona free throws miss their mark. Now, here we are, Turner inbounding and getting it back and driving freely until Agee fouls him. I raise my arms and sandwich them around my head in disbelief, and then I realize--the sweatshirt is not on, it's just sitting on the bed next to me. I grab it just in time as Turner steps to the line. You know the rest.
On Sunday, the sweatshirt was worn as we drove home, live stats letting me know that the Gaels are demolishing Siena. Nice.
On Monday, I fly to Chicago for a meeting early Tuesday. I meet my team out for dinner that night at Gibson's Steakhouse (which is fantastic by the way)--and you guessed it, the sweatshirt is on. So, I'm a tad underdressed compared with the team, but I explain myself. They all look at me like I'm nuts, but I'm not sweating it. I'm back in my hotel room to watch the majority of the second half, so pretty much the start of us blowing them out of the water.
So, I know, the question is why don't I always wear it. You all know that won't work. I honestly don't remember if I wore it for the Duke game last year. For the Oregon game, it was balmy in Sacramento, so I had on only a t-shirt. And I don't remember what I wore the previous years when the sweatshirt has been a factor, but obviously you're getting into mid-March, so it's possible I ditched it for lighter attire as I did for Oregon. I DO know this sweatshirt is at least 9-0 in the MAAC Tournament, if not 12-0.
The forecast in Columbus on Friday is 43 degrees and windy. Sounds like sweatshirt weather to me.
Wear the damn sweatshirt. Or else there will be hell to pay.
