My "sweep theory" is in play for our quarters opponent; SPU swept Marist this year.

There are no easy games. 2 seed Canisius is the best team in the MAAC on a floor not their own and lost to Iona twice already. 3 seed Quinny has the league's best player. 4 seed Rider has the most talent in the league and lost to Iona twice already. 5 seed Siena is at home with a good defense and a savvy PG. 6 seed Monmouth has a good D and experience in the tourney. 7 seed Manhattan has a good D and a coach who has won the tourney before. 8 seed Marist has a coach who has won the tourney before. 9 seed St Peters has a young team and rookie coach with nothing to lose. 10 seed Fairfield reached the finals last year as a lower seed. 11 seed Niagara has nothing to lose. Not one cakewalk. Iona is the favorite for many reasons. But any team above can beat them. Defend, let the veterans lead, and play smart basketball and we will win the whole thing. Good analysis Guy--my only amendment is that Siena has a savvy "Frosh" pg

The last time we played Marist in the MAAC tourney it was an action-packed 43-40 loss in Willard’s second season. We haven’t played them since. SPU, on the other hand, it feels like we play every season in the MAAC tourney. I have bad memories of that loss to Marist (in 1999?)when Phil Grant got a foul and was ejected hitting that kid Kennedy.

He inherited a stacked team with Kirksay, Hameed, Miller, etc. We had a disappointing year and lost in the QF to Marist. Made the tourney the following two seasons, though!

Too much parity this season. I anticipate a number of tight games.

If Rider beats Siena I can really see them blowing their next game. Something about that team and coach.

I agree Baggett lacks composure on the sidelines which hurts the product on the court. Thing is I look at them like they are a front running type of team. IF they are able to beat Siena in front of 8K, finally getting past the quarterfinals, I really think they just might take off and go on a run. The talent is there.

You beat me to posting this, under 20% for a favorite is crazy. Quinnipiac is the favorite because Iona has a tougher potential semifinal game. Doubt this takes into consideration that the teams playing Saturday have just 15 hours rest.
